Is there actually going to be a heat source there - fire or woodburner etc? If so I'd probably want a heatproof adhesive. It seems unwise to use an incorrect product just to use up £6 worth of plasterboard adhesive. I'd also wager that the marble hearth itself is worth a good chunk, so it seems silly to put that at risk just to save a small bit of cash.
It might be fine, but personally I probably wouldn't risk it because I'd flog myself to bits for being a tight arse if it goes tits up.
Think I'll be ok laying down a marble hearth with plasterboard adhesive?
The internet recommends mortar or tile adhesive but I have a half used bag of plasterboard adhesive I want rid of.
