• What are you getting?

It's been hard work. My idea that half term would be a great time to get a puppy so the children would get to know her was actually terrible. Actually just meant a lot of chaos and attempting to concentrate on 10 things at once.

Not hard work compared to actual real hard work obviously.

Plus balanced out by her being amazing. She's been totally unfazed getting mobbed by crowds of children in playgrounds, etc. Done a couple of 1.5 hour drives with no issues - just goes to sleep. She does sleep a lot.
Interspersed with very manic playing. Will be much easier when it's possible to walk her and I don't have to carry her round in a bag all the time.

  • A flat-coated retriever - we're collecting her next Friday (pictures when we do).

I've taken the week off so can't have made it much easier. Will be interesting when we go back to working from home, think separation anxiety is something we'll need to work on.

Are you looking at training classes? We visited one this weekend and I'm minded to take her as soon as we can. Sounds like you're already getting some great socialisation in from the bag!

  • Will look forwards to pictures. May do classes but haven't had time to plan much this week. I have friends with very well trained dogs so hope she'll learn hanging out with them too.
Haven't got as far as thinking about leaving her on her own, but being freelance it shouldn't be an issue for a while. Plus have many dog loving friends so I'll drop her off with them if we need to leave her until she's really ready for it.

  • Nice! I'd recommend getting her out with a dog walker a couple of times a week when you can. It really helped Crumpet to get used to spending time with a mix of other dogs and spending time apart from us. Plus she fucking loves it and is knackered for 24 hour after each walk which is handy.
