  • Wild, can’t imagine it could ever make a great brew - I’m a fan of having some Robusta in my mix as I’m an old schooler but full on, no.

  • Indeed - I couldn't imagine what it tastes like and fancied the challenge of giving it a go - reminds me of cheap French supermarket coffee.

  • Although you said you're not a fan of milky coffee, if they're 70% Vietnamese beans, you could make Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk as a treat.

  • Everyone baulked at the idea of Vietnamese egg coffee when I made one a while back. It was actually really good!

  • There's 2 different types, the one I'm talking about uses a drip filter onto cold condensed milk, rather than the frothy eggy condensed milk variety.

  • Free 30g sample from square mile (posted for free no purchase necessary).

Tried earlier and sold out, back in stock again

  • Just went through, thanks!

  • Woo. No joy for my bros. Will tell them to try again!

  • Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk as a treat.

This, along with Thai iced tea, is the best use of condensed milk.

Dulce de leche is a distant third.

  • Where do you buy the coffee? I've got some vegan condensed milk I want to try

  • This is a good shout - thanks, will give it a go

  • I did actually try this. I’d actually never used an aeropress that way before (apart from maybe a million years ago when I first got one?). It wasn’t great, if I’m honest! But the beans were just so bad, nothing I tried could escape that.

  • Agree. Could probably consume all my calories this way if pushed, and would if allowed.

Anyone with experience with spring loaded tampers? Normcore? Something else? Not really having issues but it strikes me as another box on the path to eliminating variables in my espresso making.

  • I've got the Normcore. I like it. Fits a VST basket well. One less thing to have to think about at 6am. Sometimes worried it doesn't go deep enough when downdosing, especially as I already leave headspace for a puck screen. That's more an issue with oversized basket for the dose though I guess.

  • I've recently up/down/side-graded our coffee setup at home from my gaggia classic/vario combo to a sage bambino plus and their smart pro grinder after stonehedge brought it's existence to my attention.

I love my Gaggia and it's going as strong as it did when I picked it up in 2012, I had even just bought a PID kit for it that I was waiting for the right weekend to sit down and fit but try as I might I have never been able to get my GF to learn how to use the gaggia in any meaningful way and it was really chafing my arse with us both working from home most of the time that when I'm busy with work I couldn't just make a quick coffee for myself and get back to it, I'd be stuck making them for both of us.

after a couple of weeks I gotta say the sage is definitely not the beast my gaggia has become with its upgrades but it makes a coffee in about 3 minutes flat and with a short set of written instructions my gf now not only makes herself coffee but I even get them made for me sometimes.

currently I'm weighing out the grind by time on the smart pro grinder, then using a cheap coffee distributor and then a normcore spring loaded tamper all setup for double shot and using the auto-milk function and it's producing a consistent 7/10 coffee every time. there's wiggle room to improve it and have a vst basket and bottomless portafilter for when I feel inclined to tinker but work is busy and I have plenty of other things on my to-do list ahead of it.

at some point my heavily modded gaggia with all it's toys and my vario grinder will be going up for sale here but they both need a decent clean before I put them up. the brand new pid kit from shades of coffee with topbox and pressure gauge kit will also be up for less than rrp but I want to offer it up along with the gaggia first.

  • Dibs! Although no doubt out of my price range, and just the Gaggia.

  • Glad the Bambino is working out mate.

  • 7/10 coffee and a nice easy life for you both is not to be sniffed at!!

  • I have no idea. I had it every day in Vietnam but that was a holiday nearly 10 years ago.

  • The brand of beans I've bought in the past was "Daily Delight"
The bags look like this but in different colours depending on grind or whether it's passed through any mammals

  • I missed it on the day Square Mile sent the email out but this is back in stock
