I have looked at that but TBH the appeal of modular is mixing up modules from different manufacturers to a degree. I do really like Erica Synths stuff though

Anyone see the recent BBC Hans Zimmer doc?
Interesting watch, but how the fuck does he put up with that wobble every time he presses a note on the keyboard in his squillion pound studio? Is that something people deliberately do? Surely it can't be because he can't be bothered to sort it out

The Erica Techno System is a sick looking thing but you can make music exactly like that with a TR-8, a distortion pedal and a Digitakt.

• #3355
Of course! It's one for Instagram methinks

One thing to note with the MUM M8, if you get one, is that by default the filter does not fully close. This is to mimic the original S950 behaviour. There's a switch on the PCB to change this and make it so that it fully closes at the lower end (if you prefer).

Good to know. The other filter I was looking at was the Tiptop Audio Forbidden Planet

I think my favourite sounding filter in all of eurorack is the System80 Jove, aka the 860. It's just so sweet. But I'm a sucker for that vintage Roland sound.
The first of the two racks I linked to was the first I put together so it is designed to work standalone as a small system. Two oscillators, two different filters (one multimode), a wavefolder, two (loopable) ADSRs, two VCAs (switchable between linear/exponential), two attenuverters (switchable to only attenuate, and can also be used as a mixer), two 1:4 buffered mults (can also be a single 1:8), a noise source (Kinks, with some logic functions also), oscilloscope/tuner, midi to CV interface/clock source and 2 x line level outputs. It covers quite a lot of functionality in the size.

Was a bit tongue in cheek!
I've been on the edge of starting a modular rack for a while but it's noticeably the same thinking (and G.A.S.) as building a big rig but in a small contained space. I understand the appeal of that though.

There are definitely drawbacks to eurorack, beyond just how cripplingly expensive it all is. The small size and cables everywhere sometimes makes it ergonomically challenging compared to a dedicated synth panel. Also you often end up fighting with power and noise issues (bleed is a common problem, both internally with individual modules, and across the power bus).
It is, however, really good fun.

I would enjoy it I'm sure. In fairness I could build one that has the features of all the big boxes I use and sell those and probably end up with a smaller rig and some cash left over.
If I was gigging I could see the appeal.

Me and Paul who I'm working with are playing out occasionally and we're getting more and more into improvising. For me that's the excitement about a case full of modules. He started his Eurocrack habit about 6 months ago and it's slowly drawn me in seeing and hearing what he's coaxing out of his setup

Co-producers can be relied on to create G.A.S. 🙂
These days it seems like a rig can really represent/create your personal style. More than ever with all the little boxes and eurorack. Used to be there wasn't much choice and Eurorack was for the weird noise stuff.
I don't think it needs justifying if it's affordable, it's undoubtedly appealing. Just very familiar in my case that I'm on-line looking at kit I don't have instead of using the kit I do!

This seems decent.

I'm pretty much settled on this for now. I've placed all the 'Utility' modules together on the top row. Do you have a view on layout?
(Make Noise 0 Coast isn't going in just now, but I've put it in to see what space is left)
Cheers

Looks fun!
I would tend to put the VCAs near to the signals they are controlling & being triggered by, so near the EGs and the filter output. In general I’ve arranged my stuff broadly like a left-to-right signal path, but inevitably you get criss crossing with LFOs and so on.
The other thing I’ve done is to try and keep the main knobs clear of cable clutter where possible, hence using the Palette cases upside down so the 1u row utilities and mults are at the bottom. A lot of 3u modules have knobs at the top and patch points at the bottom.

How are you getting on with the Electribe, still playing it?
I am still really tempted to get one. I have been using FL Studio Mobile on my tablet and am not getting on that well with it (i am used to Reason on PC).

I have been using FL Studio Mobile on my tablet
Have you tried Caustic? I'm an FL desktop user but just don't get on with the mobile version. As far as I recall it's not actually an original FL product, but one they bought over and rebranded.

Yes, i have had caustic since the early years. Quite a nice little app, shame they stopped supporting it. Maybe I should go back to that, it had more of a reason feel about it.
Still have this need to try something like the electribe though!
-
• #3371
Ah I didn't realise they'd stopped supporting it. Great little bit of software. Not Electribe (but I think one of dicki's other options before deciding on the Electribe), but I picked up an MC-101 a few weeks back and am loving it. Insane number of presets (4000+ I think) on it, and with recent firmware updates it's basically Roland's Zenology Pro VST in a box.

Any FL users know if licenses are transferable between PC/Mac. If i buy it now for PC. Can i use the same license on a Mac later, or will i have to buy a separate one.
-
• #3373
Same licence is fine. I used one licence for my old Mac, new Mac and my desktop PC.
I think they have some sort of rule around concurrent use of a single licence, but I'm sure I've had it on both my laptop and desktop at the same time.

Mega noob question alert for @dicki or anyone else who may know (I have tried to find out online but cannot find an answer one way or the other!)....
I have bought an Electribe 2s from ebay and just unpacked it. All looks good, things light up etc and it plays through headphones but.... I had it in my head that it would have had some kind of small internal speaker built in - does it?!

Don't think so TBH
Cheers man, appreciated. Yeah I watch all of Mylarmelodies videos, really useful.
I've currently got the Make Noise 0 Coast and the Crea8 Audio East Beast semi-modular. I may rack the O Coast, definitely going to rack the East Beast as that's super easy and doesn't require power modification like the O Coast does.
I'm already looking at the Mum M8 filter actually!
I'll check your cases on Modular Grid, I have mine on there too but its very early days.
