I double, triple checked the measurements and it's one of the things I asked on the "design" call (ceiling goes from 2680mm to 2700mm I wasn't sure whether to go for the maximum height and hope the in fill would take care of the rest. Their suggestion was to do with the lower height as otherwise the in fill could be too narrow in the lowest spot). They also send out a final design form to sign off and offer a video call so you can take the measurements in the room.
So far, really impressed.

This is the scale drawing. Pen is pre-replaster, pencil is after. Not much change but enough to warrant redoing the design from scratch.
The alcove on the right is 1010mm, and the unit to slot in there (well ,all units) is 769mm so it will easily fit. Same on the other side, 1580mm alcove, 1538mm for the two units. Whole room width is 3945mm, all 5 units equals 3845mm. So there's 100mm of space to play with/scribe in fills for.
Height wise, the double stacked tall and small units equal 2540mm including feet. Room is minimum 2680mm tall, so have 140mm to play with there. Could raise the feet or have a taller in fill along the top.

Did you measure at various heights because mine was all over the shop?

Yeah, all around the area. The ceiling just got replaced and above it, below the loft extension joists (but not those joists themselves) is a horror show, so I'm actually impressed with only a 20mm deviation across it.

Makes you wonder why they bothered posting 25 pictures of the house as it is though. Description could have just as easily been

Does anyone have a recommendation for a supplier and fitter of cheap but good and not terrible-looking UPVC windows?
After someone quite simple - sash windows (or lookalikes) but with only one middle bar rather than the cheaper-looking ones with the inset windows (see below).

Anglian actually did a good job - their sales approach almost prevented any sale from happening - but the fit and workmanship was quick and tidy. One tiny hiccup that they resolved without question within a day. All at a quarter of the price of the more upmarket options… oh and they sort scaffolds etc as part of the price.

@stevo_com didn’t you use Anglian as well?

Everest. The Anglian sales guy was a grade A cunt.

Builders have currently fucked the pvc trim in the bedroom but Everest are going to replace it under warranty

Kitchen tables…-anyone have one they want rid of? Any recommendations for long but reasonably narrow tables? Are there any other decent options outside Unto This Last? Looking for something around 180cm x 60-70cm

Muuto 70/70?

Takt?
Might be shorter/wider, but I think they do an extendable one with various options for extension side.

Have had some quotes in from a builder and just wanted to check if it’s reasonable to ask for a breakdown of said quotes in terms of labour and material costs?
One job is to remove a rusted vent pipe and replace. The second is to plaster board and skim a bedroom ceiling.
Thanks

I recently got a quote from a roofer and it went into detail re labour and materials. I got another quote and it was just a rounded figure. 100% ask for a breakdown.

• #55823
Given this is unpaid time for them. There's a 50:50 chance they may not want to.
-

Yes ask for one. They must have come up with the number somehow, which you would hope included thinking about how much materials would cost and how long it would take. If they didn’t do that, then the quote they gave is unlikely to be accurate anyway.
If they did it and they don’t want to take the time to explain it, that may be because they’re great and so busy they don’t need to, or because they’re crap.
If you could speak to the last 3 people they did work for and they’re all happy then you might get happy that it’s because they’re so busy they don’t need to do the unpaid work, and decide you don’t need a break down.
I would always ask for one

Just don't ask whether you are getting trade prices for materials ;-)
Look forward to seeing this come together, not sure I would trust myself (measurement wise) with something of that scale.
