Yes ask for one. They must have come up with the number somehow, which you would hope included thinking about how much materials would cost and how long it would take. If they didn’t do that, then the quote they gave is unlikely to be accurate anyway.
If they did it and they don’t want to take the time to explain it, that may be because they’re great and so busy they don’t need to, or because they’re crap.
If you could speak to the last 3 people they did work for and they’re all happy then you might get happy that it’s because they’re so busy they don’t need to do the unpaid work, and decide you don’t need a break down.
