As well as the safety aspect, I'd be worrying about what I'd do if it did fail out on a trip, how to repair it back to a usable state in the woods. For the sake of what, 1kg weight loss, on a loaded bike, I'd rather just have steel and peace of mind
oh yeah 100% Better to have steel for a big long trip, whats 0.7kg on your total dry bike weight.
