  • Ah, ta
Was expecting hate-fire-cyclists are part of the tofu-eating-wokerarti and all that entails

  • tldr: one of the few STEM qualified ministers.

Yet she described SAGE advice as "wrong science" in an effort to blame scientists for the Governments mistakes during the pandemic.

I did a PhD in the same department that she got hers, I can't comment on the quality of the Sage advice, but anyone with a science doctorate who describes scientific advice from Sage as "wrong science" is being willfully and shamefully misleading.

Incidentally she seemed to go straight from the PhD into corporate jobs. She's got no more STEM experience than any post grad. That would count for something, but it counts for nothing given her actions.

  • Gavin Williamson

  • Gavin Williamson

    Where? Really? Oh dear no.

  • Unlike posting on this thread which effects change. It probably is healthy to tune out from time to time.

  • It's probably buried on theyworkforyou.gov somewhere...

    Nope, not there

  • Details on Braverman's leak, including face that she "doesn't make any decision without consulting John Hayes"

  • Yes, I agree with you, she has made public utterances that seem further separated from her STEM education as she advanced her political career.
I'm hoping that her return to DeFRA will take her out of the front line, (deputy PM was clearly several grades beyond her competence), and let her continue the work that previously gained the approval of the EA.

  • Yeh its a tough sell that you are restoring integrity and then reappointing Braverman after that

  • Anyone remember the minister for farming, food and fisheries who was surprised by the provisions in the Brexit deal relating to farming, food and fisheries as she hadn't read it before voting for it as busy organising the village nativity trail? That dedicated individual with the eye for detail is now Attorney General

  • There's a slight possibility you are projecting and those assholes got where they are, with their various and often bizarre personality disorders, by paths other than the one that put you in the exalted but undeserved position you enjoy to the despair of the rest of humanity.

You are in a position of power you're completely unfit to occupy, right?

  • Surprised nobody has mentioned the appointment of racism denying, gay marriage opposing anti-woke crusader Badenoch to equalities.

Probably the worst appointment so far.

  • I was trying not to think about it.

  • Has your wife travelled abroad with your kids and without you?

It also makes a difference if your kids are a different skin tone to their mum with a different surname.

  • Yep. Our white, unmarried friend with mixed race kids has problems every time she goes abroad.

  • My OH's mate has the same problem and funnily enough their experience was actually the main driver for my OH taking my surname.

  • Yeah. She has massive dissonance. Changing her name to simplify life means giving in to the system.

  • This is excellent. Just gets better and better as it goes on. https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow/status/1584878439944921088?s=20&t=5bULq_MFxwTpBmeXbjvUsQ

  • I took my wife’s name when we married it was very simple and others have stated no cost involved. I actually preferred my old name and I now have two names that can be surname and forename which is not ideal.
Fear not though, I ensured she wasn’t escaping the patriarchy that easily by insisting she became Mrs.

  • For all you sea shanty lubbers. Shame it's already out of date

  • I should just have taken my wife’s surname, instead we double barrelled them both together so now when I give my surname people tend to just look at me like “wtf?”. Some times they’ll ask “which one is it?”

Fwiw, no cost, no documents, just went into the bank with the marriage certificate and had to post it to dvla and passport office when I changed those. My driving licence I waited until it needed renewed anyway which was a few years.

Dunno if it’d have been harder had I/we wanted to change it Bananahammock or something unrelated to our previous names.

  • V good from Trev.

  • With marriage you change through use, so as long as you can prove a link through your marriage certificate. Blending seems a grey area depending on the approach and dare I say outcome.

The bank was the only place that hesitatedststing I needed a deed poll.
I gave them every opportunity before explaining the above, followed by would we be having this conversation if I was a woman.

  • You’re in good company though as lots of inspiring people have two names that can serve as forename and surname including David Cameron, Elton John, Theresa May, Neville Neville, Craig David, Josie Lawrence etc

  • there's a surprisingly balanced article about her appointment in the guardian. I can't say I'm optimistic but at least she won't be as bad as the last guy.
