This is local to me. If it was my size I'd be all over it like a rash but I'm too short

You mean the tandem? Cheers
@Mikey5000 cheers for posting that Gorgeous Condor
Same goes to @tertius … and please shout here if you consider disposing of that lovely bike.
@HarmanMogul
So difficult to say. DY bikes when sold on are generally underrated IMO so it might not be loads. Assume that’s DA all over it?I would post it either here or on Retrobike, probably. Maybe £6-700? I tend to price things low when I want to shift em, so I don’t change my mind. So I’d probably offer it for less and just get it done. Although I said I’d be interested, I’ve now got a mixed-tube DY compact Rando and I’m enjoying it just fine.

@ricky2slicky That green thing is great.
@tertius tagging you as I failed to post properly first time above^. Love that 26r a lot!

It's mostly 853 so light. Chainstays are long, as befits Audax bike, but the front end is lively. It was a bit of handful when originally built with a carbon 3T aero fork but settled down when DY built a suitable steel fork, tho turn-in is still pretty quick.

Thanks, I sure will. However, I have had it so long I’d find it quite hard to let it go. I also suspect that whatever I could sell it for would in no way match what I think it “ought” to be worth!

Nice that. Love your commitment to posting the ebay Yateses

Couple of pics in the park before I flip all the parts off this onto the black DY Condor frame...

That's a lovely frame.
Have I seen it around the mean streets of South East London?
-
• #361
yes indeed, based in Brockley, ranging around Lewisham...! finally finished a working build of this black Yates-built Condor which is intended to replace the blue Dave on commuting duties. Unladen it handles more differently to the blue frame than I was expecting - much more nervy, much more of the thing that I think is called flop - but front panniers might help that?

Interesting, I hope it works out but if it feels wrong it may be it will always be so. The mysteries of how a F&F handles is something I’ll never fully understand.

• #363
PS I’ve seen you around Brockley on the blue one, I live there too.

• #364
thanks, yeah, from what I can estimate the blue frame is 73° / 50mm rake and the black frame is 72° / 60mm, so lower trail, although not that much lower trail. hmmm

ahhh, nice!

Cool.
Can I call 1st Dibs on the Blue one?
-
• #367
haha, yeah sure you can have dibs, though at this rate I'm going to give it a little bit before selling in case I change my mind & want to go back...

• #368
Cool. Ready and waiting if you do decide to let it go.
There would be a weird synchronicity to that.

I never thought I would consider selling this bike but now slightly thinking about it, and would appreciate some advice on pricing.
Its a Dave Yates Diablo, full rigid MTB, Columbus Cromor tubing; Pace RC30 forks; with a very mixed groupset: XTR RapidFire Plus (3x8); XT V brakes; XT 175mm cranks (chainrings 46/36/26); Deore FD; 8 speed XT RD; Mavic CrossRide 26" wheels; PanaRacer FireXCPro tyres; Ritchey bars; Crank Brothers 110 mm stem; BBB seatpost; Shimano M424 pedals; Flite titanium saddle (that I might keep).
Seat tube is 51cm c-t-c; top tube is 59cm c-t-c. As you'll note from the saddle and bar positions its always been just a fraction small for me.
I've had it since the mid 90s and its been back to Dave himself twice for refurb and repaint. The last time about three years ago. Refurb has included removing old and then fitting cable guides to run all the cables along the top of the top tube; removing the "flying" bridge for canti brakes at the rear; switching to aheadset style headset, including modding the Pace fork steerer; adding rear rack mounts.
Think I've ridden it properly once in the last 2 years, though in the past its done C2C, the Way of the Roses, Sustrans Route 4 and countless mtb outings with mates. Its been part of my cycling life but I think I'd like it to go to someone who would actually use it.
So what to ask?

my tuppence, short version: keep it...
long version: what's your reason for selling - garage space or the (correct) sense that bikes derive meaning from being ridden? it looks like a great practical build - I bet it rides amazing - but it's not period-correct or posh or NOS or what... if it were mine I'd probably list it at £500, drop the price a few times to maybe £350 and then decide to hang on to it... In any case, I'm not convinced that selling it will lead to it being used that much more - great bike, but will appeal mostly to the sort of person that already has multiple bikes (like me...) & would only ride it from time to time. Most likely you'll get a lot of interest for splitting it & selling the frame & forks for maybe £200, and the new owner may or may not get round to building it up in the next 10yrs...
Disclaimer: It looks (nearly) big enough to be my size, but I /really/ don't have room rn... maybe I'm just projecting...

^ sage advice right there. Keep it

Thanks very much for the input.
You are absolutely right it is not in any way a period correct bike it’s been developed and (I hope) improved over the years; sometimes for upgrades and most often because of need - definitely been a bike for using not coddling. And yes it is lovely to ride.
Reason for selling as you surmise is I just don’t like to think of it not being used. Because of where I store it, it’s a moderate pain to get it out and so the incentive to use it is low.
Haven't been back on here in time so the last picture I saw was when you first got it. Amazing build.
