  • Braverman returns as Home Secretary, ffs.

  • Of course she does, just the fresh start we need

  • My mind is fried by all this shit but we’ve had this, haven’t we?

  • Braverman returns as Home Secretary, ffs.

    but, hang on, how? what?

  • The price of getting and keeping ERG onside perhaps.

  • Sunak was part of the cabinet that came up with the Rwanda idea, why is this a surprise?

  • Brings her on board so she can resign again when he also has to overrule her on immigration?

  • Can he at least get rid of our antibiotics-sabotaging Health Secretary?

  • Often it is easier, especially with children involved. Or, to put it the other way, keeping a maiden name can introduce a whole load of difficulties.

My wife and I don't have matching surnames and haven't found it a problem. I'm sometimes called Mr Wife but it doesn't really matter. We haven't had problems at borders and hotels don't usually give a damn!

  • Any Brazilian heritage?

No. Is that part of the world where one name is a thing? I'm sort of aware it happens sometimes but I don't know any examples.

  • Just to point out that either partner can change their name when they marry.

But if a wife takes her husbands name the marriage certificate is the only paperwork needed. The other way it's deed poll time (not that that is especially difficult).

  • We have 4 Olivers in a sports club of 50 members, so we have nicknamed them to best differentiate them in coversation:

    Tall Oli
    Spanish Oli
    Fit Oli
    Baby* Oli (not ratified yet)

This is so much better than making people learn their lastnames and have their own lookup table.

  • I don't believe that's the case any more. It was when I got married in 2016, so I left it, but I need to renew next year and it's no longer the case, marriage certificate is enough for men too.

  • Delighted to see the same old mendacious, inadequate, intellectually-challenged cunts returning to the cabinet. That'll show the electorate how good this Government is over and over again.

  • You appear to be correct, Co-Op legal services say the process is the same for a man with key government departments, eg the passport office. I don't think it was when I got married last millennium but IANAL.

  • Coffey off Health and onto Defra.

But then who is going to get Health?

  • Steve Baker the Brexit Hardman gets Health

  • You are fucking kidding, no?

  • Steve Baker the Brexit Hardman gets Health

You mean Barclay, the former Boris arse wiper

  • You are, it’s Steve Barclay (who?) who’s been appointed Health Secretary.

  • Oh, thank god for that.

  • As you were.

  • Essentially isn't this how surnames started, Jeff (the) Baker, Steve (the) Smith, etc.

  • Bust
