^ Your local authority Planning Department deserve congratulations. Almost a textbook swale implemented as part of SuDS, Sustainable Drainage Systems. This will prevent the storm water from the new houses immediately flowing to the nearest watercourse.

Interesting to know.
It's definitely prevented flooding in the close.

Main issue with it is that, when dry, kids play football on it so all the grass / any plants in the bottom are all dead. They also can't stop kicking the balls towards peoples houses / cars.

Can't really blame them, I'd have spent a good 8hrs a day playing on something like this, looks perfect for it. If only the two trees on the left were a little more central to the pitch...
