She teaches yoga/warmup routines at a pole/dance studio so yes, yoga in heels is very much a thing in some circles! It takes all sorts.

What was that? Waste ?

Went for a bolster & a bigger hammer in the end - I'm basically Thor now.
Got the hallway down to smooth concrete quite easily, just kitchen & small toilet to go.
Annoyingly the concrete slab the house is built on slopes away by about 3cm where the outside front step used to be (guess that makes sense to stop water pooling) - we now have a dog ugly UPVC porch/lobby thing built on top of it with the drop-off being built back up to level with a crumbly morter. Of course, pulling up tiles in there pulled the morter up too.
Decided to stop and have a think what to do in there - I think pulling up the crumbly morter will mean the porch falls off the front of the house & that is very much not in the scope or budget for the kitchen/extension project! -

Stiletto heels will trash Lino. Also wood and vinyl.
I think stiletto heels will probably trash everything except things that will be horrible to do yoga on. The only surfaces I can think of that don't get heel marks are stone and concrete.
If she's wearing block heels or wedges you might be ok.

Yeah waste under sink. Ran central heating after boiler service and huge leak
-
• #4659
I'm so fuming about it

Laminate or LVT seem the options for heels.
-
• #4661
Interesting. Is that a condensate pipe feeding into waste pipe from sink?
-
• #4662
Yeah. Just had a plumber I trust round said it's fine. Probs cause the boiler is very near the sink
-
• #4663
You can do that fine, infact its better than running it outside imo.
-
• #4664
Yeah, was just trying to get my head around what it is.
The folks who did my parents boiler ran the condensate pipe out to what looks like a French drain that had a metal grate on it. It chewed through the grate in short order. Fuck knows where the acid-water actually goes, I hope it goes to the sewer...
-
• #4665
Yeah it doesnt half destroy metal quickish. Its becoming a bigger pain to run it outside now than anything with the hoops they want you to jump through, limestone neutralises it though.

Surprisingly the cheap laminate flooring under my partners pole has held up well to 5yrs of abuse. It’s marked a little but honestly it’s not that bad, certainly not badly worn or chipped.
Ok, so lino and vinyl is out. Maybe a laminate with a bit of underlay will be an acceptable compromise. I think she’d be happy with anything other than the carpet currently in there. Nothing lasts forever at the end of the day and if we need to chuck a rug down when she’s not working in there then so be it.
The heels stuff isn't a big part of her daily practice or work, more just lesson planning at home so imagine she’d mostly be barefoot in that room.
Will avoid the softer materials just to be safe though. And no, it’s 7” stilettos or gtfo. She wouldn’t be seen dead in blocks or wedges.

Amtico Click or similar floating LVTs go down very easily DIY and will hold up just as well and be less slippy than wood laminate.
You can cut it with a £50 guillotine and it comes with soft underlay bonded to the back so will go straight on to concrete.
You’ll lay your room in a day no bother.
Only needs a 2mm expansion gap so the beading you put around the edge looks less clunky than wood laminate too.
It’s bloody practical stuff, even if it won’t get you in the architecture thread.

How about CORK 🙀 tiles !?
Given all the sweat and yoga farts, I think having a wipe down synthetic material is the way to go.
-
• #4669
How much space does she need for the heel stuff? A pack of laminate board or two to put down when needed, on top of what ever lino she prefers?
-
• #4670
I’d agree with floating LVT. Hard wearing, different surface textures as preferred.
It can still mark/scratch (grit caught under sofa feet etc) so spinning on a stiletto heel is going to cause some wear.
I have quickstep Alpha in our main living space, it’s looking almost as good as new (with the kids dragging chairs, tables, gymnastic bar, toys about).
Also they provide instructions for repair of scratches and replacement of individual tiles, which I expect applies to other brands of LVT also.

Any update on taps?
-
• #4673
The tradesmen thread doesn’t get much action so will ask here.
Looking for bathroom refit person S/SE/Kent Borders for a bathroom refit, think decent rental standard not antique travertine marble and gold taps. Also any Corian/silestone type suppliers and fitters for interior windowsills, will want some old cracked terrazzo sills removed and new replacements so there may be some cavity closure fitting to do and we do not have a general builder on this. most seem to be kitchen worktop people and while they do windowsills/upstands i have no idea if they rock up and expect it all to be prepped and ready.

Speaking of LVT. Ordered a load for the bathroom and the supplier has delivered twice as many as required so I'm considering using them on the walls. Is this a daft idea? At the moment I've hacked all the old ceramic tiles off, "sorted" the plaster best I can that came away. Wasn't sure if I needed something underneath them before applying them to the wall.

get a boiling water tap
We stayed in an airbnb recently with one and it was so fucking stressful.
Child #1:"Look daddy there's a baby tap for children!"
Child #2: "Baby tap. Baby tap. Minihugo7's tap"Luckily there were no stools/similar in the kitchen. But it basically turns the whole space into a massive danger zone imo and makes your life less relaxing for very minimal benefit.
I wouldn’t count on anything with a soft underlay standing up to yoga in high heels.
High heels. Really?
