Went for a bolster & a bigger hammer in the end - I'm basically Thor now.
Got the hallway down to smooth concrete quite easily, just kitchen & small toilet to go.
Annoyingly the concrete slab the house is built on slopes away by about 3cm where the outside front step used to be (guess that makes sense to stop water pooling) - we now have a dog ugly UPVC porch/lobby thing built on top of it with the drop-off being built back up to level with a crumbly morter. Of course, pulling up tiles in there pulled the morter up too.
Decided to stop and have a think what to do in there - I think pulling up the crumbly morter will mean the porch falls off the front of the house & that is very much not in the scope or budget for the kitchen/extension project!
I picked up a cheap hikoki SDS for £50 so definitely look at this and the flat chisel route.
For extra giggles I also bought a standard chuck attachment so can use it as a standard corded drill.
