This has tempted me as a replacement for one of my Parent's crappy old TVs...

Hannspree? never heard of
To be clear, a monitor would work just as well, i won't watch actual tv. mainly movies and iPlayer so no need for a receiver / freeview etc

On the cheaper end, LG seem to be fine. I have one, and so do the parents. Generally, stick with known good names and you should be ok. People might bore you with technical details; I wouldn't worry too much about that, just try and look at the telly you're going to buy in real-life and decide if you're happy with it.
Just avoid never-heard-of brand names from places like supermarkets. They'll often be re-housed computer screens and look and sound hideous.

I have a slightly older version of this 24" monitor. Very good for the price.

Thread dredge!
It's TV time again. Been using a projector for the last few years which has been great as we only watch stuff on the weekend. Just redone the living room though and we're thinking TV. Had a look online and it seems like you can get something decent 40-50", 4k for around £500? As I haven't had a tv for years, and the projector is a standard 720p one, I think most ones will impress us.
Is there anything in particular we should look for or avoid? Coloured backlights seems cool? Audio wise we have some good B&O bluetooth speakers that we'll hook up, so don't need anything sound wise.

Look at TCL - often get a lot of bang/buck.

Buy fromRicher Sounds for their service and guarantee alone, they also treat their employees well above retail industry standard.

Should've mentioned I'm in Sweden so no Richer Sounds here I'm afraid :(

You can go a lot cheaper than that. I just bought a 42" 4K Hisense for about £260, mainly for use as a monitor. Picture doesn't seem great out the box, but I haven't even touched the brightness yet, and I'm not getting my expectations up for the money.
https://www.rtings.com/ is great, but doesn't have all the EU models

Do you get any lag with the Bluetooth speakers?

I would think anything would do for a half decent TV these days.
There are usually good deals on the big brands and if you don't need the extra smart features (amazon fire/apple tv/Google TV anyone?) or "better" sound, then just get a cheap model from Samsung, Sony, lg, Panasonic etc ..
I recently bought a 55" LG oled and realistically it looks no better than my 9 year old 32" Samsung led

At that price there won't be much difference with the main brands and you can't really go wrong with LG or Samsung. Don't worry about any of the 'smart tv' functionality as you're better off with an external device (roku, firestick etc) anyway as it'll just be out of date in a couple of years and you won't be able to update half of the apps.
The main thing when buying a new TV is turning off all the picture enhancing bullshit that is on all TV's by default.

Also worth saying black Friday is coming up, so there may be deals to be had. Even if there aren't a lot of prices will be on the increase as we get closer so check camelcamelcamel.

Not via apple tv, no

Thanks for input all! Feels like I should seek out a good deal on a proper branded tv from a decent retailer so we get a bit of warranty etc.
What about size? We'll be 3-4 meters away. 40" enough? Keep in mind we've been spoilt with 4x3m image from the projector ...
-
• #19
4 meters is actually pretty far. We have a 42'' screen, due to space/layout in my last flat we were maybe 2 meters from eyes to screen, have now since moved to somewhere with more space and the screen feels tiny.

Can you wait until Costco is built?

I had a CRT projector for years that then was swapped for a 32" TV. Just pick what you fancy. I'd have thought 55" was a good compromise on tvsize/distance/imposition depending on how much wall real estate you have.

Not these days, no.

What will happen? Enlighten me!

Hardly any price difference between 40 and 50 so might as well go for it. Will measure our soon to be book case first though...

Just out of interest, which B&O speakers?
I went down the TV rabbit hole, and gave up. Instead we got a 4k monitor and an Apple TV, thus just one remote control.
I'm keen on a tv for winter, snuggle up and watch some movies and all that
I would like something flat, prob 24" or so, hdmi would be nice so i can hook up an hacked apple tv to it.
But, i have absolutely no idea about tellies, so can anyone recommend me something? New or old doesn't matter, as long as it's flat screen
