The one main thing you need to do with DIYs is let the org know BEFORE you ride it. That might be the issue. Even if they don't see the email saying you're going to ride something, my org will be ok because the email was sent before I left the house.

Yep. I've got out of bed and submitted my DIY 10 minutes before getting on my bike before now.

I entered almost all my rides just before I leave the house, simply because I'll sack it off if I've not recovered enough or say the weather is too shite. I'd enter the night before but then find some storm had blown in earlier than expected so I leave it late, unless I'm lacking motivation on a multi day block and then I'll enter in advance - that's usually enough to force me out the door.
