  • Bit out of fashion now.

  • Agreed. Awful.

  • I like this view

  • Good job we ran out of money on our 1930's money pit and didn't get around to the stairs :)

  • Daddy issues fully baked in yo. Hope my kids get that YouTube coin rolling in soon to pay for my imminent midlife crisis.

  • I’ve had the flu for a week or so - so it’s stalled and waiting for me to decide about cladding. I think horizontal is the way to go - dbr made a good point about being true to the original design - which was horizontal shiplap. The issue I have is that the upvc on the main facade doesn’t match an off the shelf timber pattern. And the fascia itself is 1.5 boards deep rather than 2 full. I mocked up using smaller timbers - but not convinced.

  • I can see why my builders wanted to just lay out wooden flooring over the top of these horrible brown tiles - I'm having a crack at pulling them up as I don't want to lose the head height.

The crowbar & hammer is all I have to hand but I guess I can go and get something else. Is there a better way of doing this than chipping away & trying the lever them up?
Maybe smashing with a sledge hammer? But I feel I'll get shredded by shards doing that...

  • Bigger/heavier hammer and a bolster would be what I’d use

  • Hammer SDS drill and a tile lifting bolster

  • Yeah that’s probably a better option if you can borrow one or even rent it

  • Cotten steel w/matching door?

  • Thank you - will check out what's available in the area tomorrow!

    The rest of it is coming together quite nicely;

  • I did think about metal of some kind. Just pulled the trigger on some cedar rainscreen boards tho - will try some white oil on them I think.

  • I picked up a cheap hikoki SDS for £50 so definitely look at this and the flat chisel route.

For extra giggles I also bought a standard chuck attachment so can use it as a standard corded drill.

  • I have some of the osmo stuff which is unused (not sure of any use?)

  • Flooring advice? (Been pointed here from the owning home thread).
Partner wants to pull up the carpet in our spare room and replace with lino/lvt/laminate etc.

12.5m2. Room is square with 2 small insets but no alcoves or weird corners. Room is used as her yoga/workout space so non-slip, wear resistance but with a tiny bit of give ideally.

New build flat so concrete floors.

I’m pretty handy so might be able to do it myself but it comes down to time/effort vs paying a pro.

    Pros/cons of each flooring type?

  • Forbo Marmoleum, they do a marbled pink one. Get it from J De Bruyn if you plan to lay it yourself. It’ll have a bit of give it you use a springy underlay.

  • Looks the absolutely ticket but £54/m is a bit spendy for us.
Will have a nose around, mostly trying to decide which is the best system for us at this point.
If we could do the room for a grand or less that would be nice so I guess that’s either:
-Spendy materials and do it myself(but risk of fuckups/not having time)
    -cheaper materials + labour

  • New build flat so concrete floors.

Worth checking your lease and doing the relevant leaseholder applications if necessary so it hopefully doesn't come back to bite you down the line! Plenty of cork backed products which claim to be as acoustic asorbing as carpet.

  • Will look into it. We’re part buy/part rent but plenty of our neighbours have had new kitchens and bathrooms etc so fairly sure we can do what we want

  • I second the forbo lino suggestions.
It's what I would put in a yoga space, it feels great.

  • Thanks boss - I think I have stock of what I need. I wasn’t going to go cedar but I’m quite excited now - smells so lush. Made a bannister decision yet ?

  • I love cork and grew up in a house with some delightfully squishy ones.
Alas, my partner does yoga classes in high heels sometimes so they’d get shredded in days.

Will think on it, watch some YouTube and get a quote or two from a pro and go from there.

My boss also reckons forbo lino is the one as he’s got it all over his house.
