Players made to play in the wrong tactical structure that didn't suit the squad. And I use tactical structure in the loosest possible way.
Where Smith visibly improved players and for the most part made the team more than the sum of its parts, Gerrard's 'coaching' made individuals worse and the team play like they had barely met each other before.
