The last sentence is why the party will do anything to keep it going as long as possible. Play for time and hope that you get lucky with a warm winter and soft monetary landing in the US (both unlikely).
It's not really in the spirit of this thread but I actually don't think the Westminster system would work very well with a 500+ seat Labour government. An effective opposition is quite important, so if you do get some rebuilding on the right that allows a 1997-style HoC composition it's not the end of the world.

Indeed, but you never know, it's wishful thinking but:-
- 500+ seat Labour Government
- Push through PR
- Have a practice election under PR to get people used to the idea
- Call a real GE under PR
- Come back with a lower majority and more of an opposition and a more representative opposition
- 500+ seat Labour Government
At least 36 crossing the floor would be a glorious start to Boris' first session back in Parliament.
