Yes, I want something that doesn't scream office as it's in a room with a sofa and an armchair. Need adjustability as there are two people using it and I've got a knackered back but everything that I've found looks very corporate.

We live in the ground floor of a split Victoria terrace (both flats leasehold). Our ceiling lights stopped working a couple days ago and finally got an electrician round to take a look. One of the light fittings in the hallway had a bit of water on it which had caused the circuit to cut out.
There aren't any widespread signs of water damage (no ceiling stains etc). Electrician said its likely from a leaky pipe opposed to a roof leak as there is so little water. I'm tending to agree with him.
Are the next steps just to get a hold of the guy from upstairs (fairly illusive bloke) and get him to open his floors to look? I'm dammed if I am going to start ripping out our ceilings (unless home insurance pays).

Guessing he will be even less dammed to start ripping up his floor!

Would a cheep snake cam do a job while you wait for the contact of the guys next door? On semi related note, just ordered one on Ali to investigate rad that is not working and seem to be empty (it should be on CH, cant find any valves). Son of previous owner (RIP) made some comments how weird it was for them to move to place where all rads were working. Though he vaguely remember it working long time ago. So some shenanigans afoot.

This is a good call Do you have a link to the Ali express can you ordered? I would think the basic one from Toolstation may also be up to the job.

I've got this one, but haven't tried it yet, mind you:

Check that the system is balanced, or at least get someone experienced to do it. Had one place that was a struggle until I had a plumber balance all the rads.

What kind of system is in the now?

Two reasons;
- They often have good discounts - one of our curtain rails cost a couple of quid as one of the naff glass end was broke, so I smashed to other and modified the end caps.
- Quality of stuff varies and something like curtains is quite textural. Plus it sounds like you want to make sure they're not thin ones.

It is a semidetached concrete/rebar 3 story house (plus basement/garage and cellar under that). We have a fairly modern wood furnace (Beretta), electrical boiler (looks like 50L) and a gas heater with pass through (Beretta Junior). We use just the last one as it is no fuss operation and fits our needs. The pipes for the rads themselves go up to 3rd floor and are beefy (very inefficient). then branch out to rads and loop down. No manifolds. So if I reduce the attic rad's output, all other rads on the loop go pretty much dead. (kid's bedroom 1st floor and one in the living room down bellow). It does not help that it's a mix of rads as well, we have modern stainless, cast and pressed sheet ones. Some have air valves some don't.
The heater in the bathroom does not have any water in it, when system is pressurized to 1.5 bar. Air valve closed or open - does not matter.
We had plumber come out to re-pipe the attic as it was full of loops that trapped air and did no favors down the line (pretty sure previous owners used them as anchors to tie themselves while going on the roof as one was collapsed from wall and causing leaks) . Changed all air valves where could be done. He thinks that heater must have a valve somewhere, otherwise you would have at least some signs of life. We have another heater that works fine there and are in no rush to sort it out. It is just a mystery.
I am meeting our plumber today. We are setting out a plan to replace a gas boiler and fit at least some manifolds to get some zones going. Plus few other issues.
Sorry if I am ranting, just got this house this year and with so many oddities I have to vent a bit, if I start talking even a little about this ;)

I have to vent a bit
Maybe the plumber can help with that!
Sounds like a mess of a system. I have had problems exactly like that in a house I was looking after for a client. Fortunately without so many infrastructure problems. The plumber managed to fix it but once people started adjusting their room thermostats for more heat some others went cold again.
I'm sure the plumbers on here have seen a lot of this.

House is very thread-appropriate given the Aeron in pic 12!
Does anyone recognise the garden furniture? I think it looks rather smart. Also, is it just me or does it feel like they've cheaped out on the rads?

Cheers!
Weird set up for sure. Hopefully some rad exchange, new boiler and some manifolds will put a handle on it.

garden stuff is Hay Palissade, i think?

Yep, agree. Cheers

Hmmm I’m sitting in a vitsoe / Aeron room right now don’t judge me

I find stuff like this really ugly and pointless unless they are frequently moving those shelves.

Had the chance to sample those at a wealthy friend's house in stoke newington. The palissade coated finish is pretty lovely, with a nice grain. Bouroullec are indeed pretty good.
I wonder if their latest vitsoe-challenging shelf system is any good.

I wonder if I'll ever have the money to entertain getting anything from either of them :D
Currently rocking Dunelm's knock-off string shelving.
The Aeron is comfortable and reasonably attractive, but does look quite corporate in a domestic setting
