Embroidered patches - help me I need an adult

  • One week ago I bought a 20-year old commercial embroidery machine. 12 needles, one head. It cost proper money. I don’t trust that it won’t break before I return on investment but that’s by the wayside.

It has issues, it is not perfect. The software to digitise images is buggy. Sometimes the stitching just doesn’t sit right.

These are all around 8cm wide. Even the black area is embroidered. They are on a nice thick felt material, and I can add iron-on backing but I would prefer people sew them on because neurotic.

    Questions:

    1. Everyone likes patches, right?
    2. Would you personally buy some patches?
    3. Can you tolerate a higher price being custom/low runs/limited numbers?
    4. Is £10-20 too expensive?

Throwing back to nearly 3 years ago now, I thought I might do a very limited run of Plague Island patches.

Court of public opinion, do you want them, and what are you all willing to pay?

    1. Yes
    2. No (no where/no time to put them)
    3. Yes
    4. £10 for nice niche ones seems about right.

I wonder if it's one of those things where you may have luck as a "group buy" function in a forum. Go to a forum, say I do this and have this badge. Need to do a run of 20(?) anyone interested?

  • My fear is the machine breaking before I complete the run. I don’t quite trust it that much yet. I also fear like on-here, that 20 person run suddenly becomes 50 : Plague Island stickers spicy deja vu.

  • Could you do some lfgss ones?

  • Would go some inshallah Mashallah patches.

  • That’s your answer then. They’re more expensive for one offs while you’re learning the machine. Once you’re more comfortable and familiar with its capability you could maybe do some forum runs, again likely be limited while you’re still getting comfortable. Eg, 10 patches available, £15 each, first come first served etc etc.

While I have no burning desire for a patch right now, they are lovely things!

  • Around £10 a patch is the going rate having had some made before. Good luck, looks fun!

  • Okay so £10 a patch, if you guys are happy to pay that then I’ll make some and get them up for sale as first come first served.

I had a feeling I’ll need to make up some Inshallah Mashallah!! Ha!

LFGSS ones, maybe. Will need to see about forum donation type stuff as well.

  • Oh dear. I guess I need to design a patch now.

  • where did you get imma head out?

  • I designed it. Made it. But it takes long time, mind. That would be more than £10 probably.

  • tofu eating wokerati patch please

  • Current, but will it age well?

  • A classic LFGSS in the baby blue and same font would be nice.

  • Could you possibly do "40k Kitchen" in the style of Warhammer? Would go down really well with a large amount of users

  • Could we combine that with an "I don't pay road tax" patch to induce aneurysms in passing gammons?

  • A nice round one with 'Charity Trolley Token' around the outside.
