If they can't find the "unity candidate" from MPs, which is looking likely then why not a celebrity? The PM doesn't have to be an MP.

I’d be happy if it was Steven Gerrard, would get him away from The Mighty Villa. Plus his miserableness would fit in neatly with the current mood
