  • I removed the wheel and think I fitted the rack … it was a pain tho!

And can’t really tell if it is on right …

Is the light mount going to be okay here just behind it (don’t have a rear Dynamo light yet but thinking eventually to get supernova or b+m top light, latter being my pref)

  • The top fitting needs to go behind the brake; and then you get a touch more clearance for a light to be seen!

  • Do I need to bend the rack or something, as I initially tried that and couldn’t get an angle that worked …

Or do you mean move the light fitting?

  • Shouldn’t have to!

  • Nah, with the mudguards, rear wheel and brake off, position the brake where it shoule be.

  • think i managed ...

trying not to be fixated on the mismatching wheels ....

seems like the rear light mount will still struggle, but that's a problem for future me.

  • Is the guard fixed to the rack using the guard wheel bolt holes?

Asking as I've got a rack here to install and I'm loosing confidence, especially as mine looks slightly bent

  • yeah, i removed the middle mudgard stay to make room for the rack stay ...

i'm still not convinced i did it right ... i might move the mudguard to come right after the brake, as currently the mudguard looks uncomfortable.

  • Correct, you can even ditch the mudguard stays to have a cleaner look.

  • Does anybody have a spare luggage carrier block they'd like to sell?

  • i don't have a block but i've got one of these carrier frames going spare if anyone is in need ...

  • I do, whereabouts you based?

  • Looks level enough, what's the total spend?

  • Is there anywhere is South West London I can get two Brompton front wheels clips tomorrow? The clip to hold the front wheel when folded?

  • Well I think I've mainly got the rack on apart from this spring that leapt out of the brakes and seems to be a real fucker to get back in. Any tips?

  • I worked that out, wasn't shoving it in far enough when I compared it to the front wheel

More fundamental issue is this though. The tab doesn't seem to line up meaning this is the most I can tighten this up.

  • Why’d you take the brake apart?

You can just bend that tab into shape

    Also;
    Clean that chain!
3 speed cable looks like the thread is barely in the anchorage? And the lock nut needs snugging on.. I guess you still have this to reset?

  • Wanted to do some small upgrades on my Brompton. Was thinking of getting the Bromptification seatpost.

Is it worth upgrading to the Joseph Kuosac headset as well or any other headset recommendations? I think a Chris King might be very over the top.

I was also considering the titanium bottom bracket on SJS. Would changing the BB change the ride quality and would it allow for after market chainsets down the line?

  • The bolt kept catching on the bridge when I was trying to get it out so it was easiest to take the brake apart and unscrew it.

Yes, guess I'll have to bend it. Annoying as I'll need to dismantle most of it to try and bend it. I was hoping that tightening the bolt up would force it straight but it doesn't seem to.

Yep, chain is a bit filthy. I gave it a wipe over a few weeks ago but it's going to need something a bit more drastic. I've not quite tuned the gears yet.

  • Ti post is a good upgrade. A generic one can be had for less than half the price of the Brompf one.
Went from JK headset back to original brompton part here; kept coming loose & very susceptible to marks and scratches!
Any square taper after market chainset would be ok I think!

  • Brompfication post is very nice, good quality, you can buy loads for cheaper but on a post that length I like to know its safe!

Fitted 10s and 10s of JK headsets, we worth the upgrade; just make sure whoever fits it locks the two nuts together correctly. and yup, CK is incredible but £195 makes it ludicrous

wont ride any differently, still JIS taper so you can fit any chainset you would have been able to previously,

  • Thanks for the responses guys! Any recommendations on chainsets to work with an existing 6 speed setup?
