Have I missed something?

Ideally a split into several parties so the right has to fight as much as the left
And if this happens, FPTP has to go also.

Mere speculation.

There was chat about this a while back. The German (IIRC) scheme is to give everyone a free energy allowance (enough to cover average basic use), then use above that costs above the current rate. So the more you use the higher the cost, but that partly funds the poorest (also windfall tax on suppliers). Gives a real incentive to cut usage as well.

It’s going to be Johnson isn’t it.
Even if its not Johnson, but a faction tries it, it wil be ruinous to the party. The infighting will be searing.
I can't think of a Tory MP who could replace Truss who wouldn't trigger a Tory party civil war. There isn't a single person they can unite behind. Maybe partly due to Johnson getting rid most of the more experienced and trusted moderates.

I've written to my mp Braverman and said it has to be her and to not accept anything less.

The Treasury Flickr account didn't blur the papers the chancellor was holding from a little photo-op this morning.

"Comms discipline is vital - the detail of these announcements must not be made public before the press conference later."

Isn't this normally done on purpose?

Literally the only way we can continue the Russian doll sequence of ever-decreasing quality PMs.

Surely if the Tories split then labour have no natural predators and the chances of changing fptp are gone?

• #537
Then who? Bridgen? Farage?? Tice???
-
• #538
Hmm sensible AND screws the rich. I like it.

You've got a point there. I'd not thought about it like that. Plus there'd be no majority in government to push it through.

There would be an up swing in out right evil.

• #541
Seconded - I like this a lot.

Have we considered outsourcing our government to the Germans?

Sunak's bookies chances at next leader have quadrupled without him either saying or doing anything. Quite strange.

Angela Merkel as unity PM. Ha! Could you imagine the frothing from the usual suspects...
-
• #545
yeah agree - someone else suggested this too.
I guess some possible difficulties identifying households etc (if you have two homes and use less in each as a result, you could benefit) but overall seems a good system

Anyone who thinks Sunak looks at the current state of the tory party/polls and thinks he would go anywhere near it is more insane than the current cabinet.
Maybe after the next GE he might parachute in and try to do a Starmer?

It's gone from U-turn to U-bend
Or something
-
• #548
"In this Tory government, everybody gets to be Prime Minister for 15 minutes"
That was good from Starmer

Fucking hell Penny Mordor running through the Tory greatest hits, so fucking deluded

Insane, with Rishi rubbing his hands together with his shot coming up.
Jeremy Cunt seems to work on that, he's nearly had every job going in the cabinet.
I read dogging.
