  • Hmm, I don’t really know anything about servicing those SA hubs. Could you be tempted to take it to a shop and have them do the service for you? Maybe the drum needs attention too.

Personally.. I wouldn’t put a disc brake conversion kit on a cargo bike. But then again I wouldn’t even put one on a regular bike.

Mig could be fine if you think the seat stay can handle it and you’ll get it accurate enough to not be a nightmare setting up the brakes 🫣… but I don’t know about MIG welding if you’re confident I’d gfi.

a new IGH is also a good option but I’d want to try and fix the sturmey first if it were me… :-)

  • Looks like he clonked his leg/knee good and proper 🤕

  • Had a customer with an 8 speed sturmey, apparently misbehaved from new, no one knew what to do, they'd been to a bunch of shops, some had obviously tried to take it apart.
Sent it away to SA importer/service shop, they said wasn't anything really wrong just a dissemble CLA kind of a job.
Put it back on customers bike, literally imploded within 20 metres of trying to ride it down the street. Sent it back to SA and they actually rebuilt the wheel as there was something to with the ring thats pressed into the alloy hub shell that was not right with it.

  • I was off work for 4 months after dropping a Bullitt on my knee. The circumstances were actually exactly as cool/badass as this. Definitely didn't slide out on a greasy corner.

  • Yes, but could we work out a fair price without the bafang?

  • I've just managed to get the eBullitt insured on our household insurance for £30 with Admiral.
I put the value as £5k. If you go above £5k it gets silly.

  • What does it add to the monthly?

  • Isn’t it lovely when your bike matches the surroundings? Wasn’t 100% taken with rose gold omniums but it’s grown on me. Then today looked lovely!

  • Has anyone tested or even have an elian cargo bike?

Or heard anything about the experience? Wonder what the steering is like.

  • Sorry I only looked at the annual figures but probably about £3 per month

  • Does it cover theft when out and about?

  • Yes, worldwide.

What I need to look into is if there are any lock requirements.

  • This sounds exceptionally good value if it covers theft when not at home. Stopped laka when it started to top £45 a month, more an alarm that bike theft in Glasgow is through the roof than that laka are profiting hugely.

  • Yes, that's why I posted it as it's way better than the any standalone I found.

When we got the bike I looked into standalone insurance and it was the sort of level you mention. Laka was the lowest, but it didn't make sense to pay that much. But I had to renew our home insurance and just put it on the off chance.

Actually the Laka insurance would have been more expensive just for the bike than my entire buildings + contents for a four bedroom house! Not a criticism of Laka as I'm sure they've worked out their risk, more an observation on how the insurance industry works.

  • Not a criticism of Laka as I'm sure they've worked out their risk,

This is what makes me worried about the house insurance option. Why so cheap?

  • on another topic, can anyone reccommend pads for TRP c2.3 calipers? Metal, not resin, I guess.

  • we've got all our bikes on admiral too.

The thing i'm concerned about is damage from a crash etc.

  • Don’t know if anyone is familiar with this Instagram account.

Lots of fun cargo bike related content.

  • great find,
This https://www.instagram.com/p/CiPELVnsRtD/ really appeals. Now there's two kids and two bikes I'd love to have such an apparatus to get them both out to Victoria park.

  • I have two theories.

Either they are targeting a particular segment which has a different risk from the population as a whole (home owner, age, etc...)

Or they are focusing on the buildings and contents and not realised what risk they are taking on with the bike.

Either way I'd be confident a leading insurance company would pay up if it came to it. They gave me the quote so I assume they are happy with it!

  • We have our eBullitt insured on the home insurance too. We are with Tesco. Think it added around the same, maybe £25 to the premium. Worth doing for sure.

No specific lock requirements on ours, just a “suitable” fixing device. We use a couple of Kryptonite locks.

  • Ooooh. Fun! Oh! We’ve been featured on that! Haha.

  • Battery on the Tern died just as I got to the childminder after me forgetting to charge it then hyper-miling all the way in. It is really NOT designed to be ridden without assistance. Not a fun 3 miles home.

  • no e-cargo bike is, weight was something I looked at when I bought the Tern, its still the lightest. UA is 50kg, R+M are more than 50kg !
