Nice. Funny creatures. 🙂
Started a new oil painting (60x80 cm) this evening. Still lots of work on it but happy with the way the colour combination works out.

Looks interesting I already like the lions on the clothing.
I also updated the coloured doodle with black outlines.

My next map… this time 13 layers of print and gold including 23ct. 18ct and 12ct.
Going to paint the background in a cream to build some warmth to it. The current background is just a white sheet of paper.
Also going to experiment in adding some wood veneer as a finish to the small panel in the middle.
I think there is to much black in this, good to learn that I need to tone it back in future things I make.

Lovely I think the cream will def add depth and warmth to it. Amazing skillzzzz

Have gone for the cream background but a bit worried it is a bit “faux patina”.
Will need to alter the black layer anyway for another version, needs the exposure reduced to make it lighter and brighter.
Probably looked at it a bit to much. Will tuck it away somewhere and look again next week.

So many options for the background paper. What you have there looks great because it showcases the work which is really good.

The black outlines make it even look better. August Macke did the same thing on his paintings and it is something I really like. Too difficult to explain in English for me (in Dutch I would probably use 5 times the number of words to describe what I mean...), so just remember I like it. 😏
About mine. The figures are "Gilles de Binche". Folklore here in Belgium. They pop up on every carnival-like event.

Great stuff, @Manson7am! I'm a surveyor so I have this weak spot for old maps.

As I said, it's a local folklore. Some say it goes back to the 16 th century and refers to a rather burlesque party organized by king Philip II in his Belgian castle in Binche. Maybe the red lions, red and yellow stripes refer to the Spanish flag. And ofcourse the oranges they throw around symbolize Spain. The bells they carry go back to the old (Pagan) habit of chasing away bad spirits by making noise.
