I agree that something needs to be done about this Shell business, but I don't think abandoning club riders is it.
The track league I am racing in started this autumn, and ends next spring. LFGSS CC not renewing its BC affiliation could leave me and similar riders somewhat in the lurch, having to figure out which other club to join, pay the membership fees, and fork out for new kit-assuming any is available-and money still ends up going towards BC anyway.
It strikes me that what would be a dictatorial decision for LFGSS CC not to renew its BC affiliation flies in the face of the club's stated aims of enabling riders to compete without having to join other clubs.
Not renewing would be like flouncing out of a meeting because you don't like what is being said, and in the process removing your chance to have any further say or hear more.
It would be at least decent if a workable alternative was presented to riders rather than just abandoning them.
Not renewing weakens the club's position, and removes the possibility of dissent from within.
I propose renewing affiliation so club riders can still compete under LFGSS, AND getting the club jerseys reprinted with (with permission) Darren Cullen's hell logo on the sleeves in place of the shell logo GB riders have on their sleeves.
I don't want to get worked up and argue about this, I'm just trying to stay calm and concentrate on winning races.
Depending on the club's rules then any decision about leaving BC needs at the minimum to be taken by the club's management committee. A decision of such significance ought to be made by
members at either the AGM or an EGM.
