  • We would like to suck a further £10 because .
    Nfway
    Cancelled my end whistle.

  • The only non-BC race I’m aware of is Thundercross.

You can race all London League races with a day license, so don’t have to be a BC member to participate, but you won’t get any BC points (which only matters if you ride National Trophy races I think, as that is how they grid).

  • but you still have to pay bc a booking fee right and the day licence goes to them?

  • Yes. They are the governing body for cycle sport in this country so it is very difficult to race without interacting with them, especially for road racing and cyclocross.

  • Gutted to see the hell logo on the GB team kit at the track worlds. The BBC commentary has already referred to the controversy.

  • I bet loads of BC members are not bothered at all by this, lots of sport cyclists have no interest in the green side of the sport. Driving to races, having a van as a daily run about, etc.. a lot of cycle sport outside of London maybe is dependent on car ownership to a large extent.
Be interesting to see if the opposition to this has much impact overall.

  • Got the same reply. Posting my card tonight, and have asked them to delete everything they know about me per UK GDPR art 17 “right to erasure”

  • On another cycling forum they’re doing the full ‘…yet you partake in society, I am very clever’ thing whilst calling complaints about the partnership ‘virtue signalling’

  • I'm going to cancel the LFGSS club fees this time around. Kinda done with British cycling at this point

  • I love a snippy email.

    Dear British Cycling
I am disappointed and disgusted at British Cycling's decision to partner with Shell UK. Consider this email as notification that I am require my membership, cancelled with immediate effect.
Even the most cursory level of due diligence would have discovered the abject disregard that Shell has for anything other than it's bottom line and share price - This partnership is a cynical attempt by Shell to shore up its green credential.
For British Cycling, this decision demonstrates a failing of leadership, and an utter disregard for the people for whom cycling, as a sport and activity, is part of their life.

  • When will this take effect?

  • Affiliation will end on Dec 31st

  • I have heard that the spike in cancellations is negligible in comparison to what aftermath of the transgender athlete participation thing

  • Hah yeh I bet. That was a shambles
They’ve not had a good year have they, considering how much they spend on marketing and PR their public messaging has been awful

  • Yep, also just cancelled membership
    Sad really
But better choices needed at their end

  • I'm proposing that my club doesn't renew its BC affiliation. We've decided not to run our crit next year so the timing is perfect.

  • One of the coaches I work with runs a (bc affiliated) cycling club and ran a fairly major road race until a few years ago.

He says he has some Australians in the club and had Irish riders enter his race pretty frequently.

So you can be in a cycling club based in a nation that your neither citizen or resident in and you can enter races with ‘foreign’ ngb membership.

I don’t think that being a member of a bc affiliated club and being a member of bc are the same or linked in anyway though? So the Australians probably have an Australian race licence (if they have one at all)?

  • Are Cycling Ireland any better than BC? Might give em a call when I get to work…

  • Just for a moment I toyed with the idea of joining the French federation (FFC).

    It's sponsored by Total.

So that stopped that silly idea!

  • And for Belgium it's Esso.

  • Cycling has been the new golf for long time. BP is full of road bike wankers.

  • BP ?

Strangely, I typed BP as caps but it got changed into lower case by the system, which won't accept caps as an edit.

Further edit - Ah,at last it's got the idea!

  • great, happy to hear it. thank you

  • Is there something in the BC constitution that would enable a coup?

Bringing the organisation into disrepute or something.

It’s pretty clear the board are making some decisions that are or odds with the membership and their acknowledgement email shows they don’t care.

There was a coup at a car club that @Dammit is probably a member of a year or two ago and that was top fun. Months of popcorn.
