  • How is being a business dishonest, genuine question.

We aren't going to asda, the bike shop anywhere and get trade price material. There's nothing dishonest about trying to make a living, as I said earlier its a business and not a charity.

Are you going down the bakers or the butchers and going this is a dishonest operation as this loaf only costs 25p to make and you are charging me £5 for this. After all its flour, water and some salt.

  • That's not fair to ask on a public forum. It's specific to the area people work in as well. As it happens @konastab01 has given a lot of details about how and why he operates over the years I've been reading this thread and it always seems to add up in my estimation.

Like I said before, some trades do and some don't. I have trade accounts with places, I send customers to look at the pretty things, the shop rings me to ask if they can have the prices from my account, I say yes, the shop says, well ok then. In short it is also the case that you can be paying directly and still not receiving the discount that a tradesman would.

It's great that you're happy with your builder, one man's meat is another man's poison though. Each to their own.

  • My day rate or hourly rate is negligible as it depends on the size of the job the difference between a half day gig and a 3 month is huge.

What your missing is that say you want a anything mechanical fitted, you pay trade price for all the material and the item breaks down. The 1st thing the manufacturer wants you as the tradesman to do is to go back to the job, what happens if its something I haven't done who compensating me for my time that I've lost, that's where the added mark up covers because you think you've paid the tradesman already and will be huffy about having to pay him again as you should because you've used valuable time that he won't get compensated for. These are the things alot of people dont understand because they dont look at it that way.
