• i LOVE them!

    More doggo pictures please.

I will make sure to take more the next time :D. Lots of good bois were seen.

@veLLo: It's not that heavy actually. That's mostly my down quilt and down jacket in there. It did rattle loose twice on the first day but I think that was due to me fitting it partly on the upwards bend of the saddle rails. On the 2nd day on the SDW I pushed the saddle back a bit giving the bagman more straight saddle rail to grab and it stayed put. I did destroy one of the old bagman explorer (?) with support struts on the SDW before with just a sleeping bag on. But I think that one was made of brittle aluminium and has been discontinued for that exact reason.

Had to fix it with a tent peg, gorilla tape and zipties on the campsite.

  • such fix. much heroic WOW

  • Yes the aluminium bagman had bad reputation, the struts I referred to are ones you can adapt to your current bagman, I've got them, not the neatest design but solid...

  • After some more riding on the weekend with hail, snow, rain and beautiful sunshine here is a proper pic of the Secan with some British gravel mud.

  • I have only ridden this bike on 2 weekends but there are so many pictures on different IG channels, it looks like I've been everywhere with it already.
As explained here I kinda got the Secan frameset for "free". Dom from Fairlight also helped me out with obtaining some parts for it. So I just send him some pictures and it's featured on their IG now.

And here are two more posts from other people:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CbppmVTsEVw/

    Am I an influencer now?

  • Yea that's what I ended up doing. I think it shot at high ISO or at least it's very grainy? And the compression makes it look blurry?

  • It's one of these pictures where you let go of the bike, hope it doesn't fall over, your pal takes a picture real quick and you catch the bike. So makes sense that it's a high iso to help with the shutter speed.

  • The Fairlight looks great!

    How are those brake calipers?

  • I am looking into a new paintjob for the Raleigh again. I am going to get it resprayed by Mario Vaz. Somebody suggested H Lloyd Cycles for custom decals.
Steve from H Lloyd recommended vinyl decals.
What are other people using? Should I get the decals first so Mario can add a layer of clear coat on top? Or do I just stick them on like regular stickers?

  • I don't know if in the case of a bespoke design he could (or anyone else) offer anything else than vinyl? (Maybe water slide decals are only available for classic brands or if great numbers are made?)
In any case having done both with and without clear coat on top of vinyl, it's better with. Also, the over-thickness feels less if lacquered over. Smoother at the edges, more durable, and neater
Make sure you're mega accurate in the location of the transfer on the frame with Mario. Diagram with dimensions ideally.
I was very pleased with H Lloyd decals on the Varonha.

  • Thank you!
I will be very precise in my instructions :D.
I think waterslide is only an option for larger quantities. At least that's what I was told when I was working on the decals for the Fairlight Strael.

So back to the drawing board to finish the decal design.

  • I've come back to look at this a few times, it's really very handsome. Bar tape colour is very satisfying, and the crankset looks good in that combo too, silver chainring breaks up the mass of black from the tyres and stops it being 3 blocks of black down low.

  • What colour newbaums did you use for this?

  • This is the (Dark) Khaki

  • I see you posting pics of your fairlight on instagram, why no here?

  • Haha,
I‘ve been meaning to write a proper update here for a while. Instagram is just instant. A lot has happened recently but here is the gist.
My partner and I relocated to Vienna, Austria at the beginning of June but it took 1 1/2 months to get all of our things over. That includes 8 of our 10 bikes. We had to completely disassemble them. We took two fixed gears with us on the plane and so far we‘ve managed to put the gravel bikes and the GT Karakoram back together. The rest is still in bits. I usually enjoy writing these updates here but recently there was too much going on to find the head space. Here have some random pictures in the meantime ✌️

  • Did I see this inbred pop up on Insta again?

  • Yes, most probably! I took it out for a lunch cruise yesterday. I was spent from going for a run for the first time in a year and the big bouncy beast was just the right thing to ride and get take away :)

I've been meaning to write an update here for a while and now so much stuff has pilled I don't know where to start :D
It took me some time to put the inbred back together after the big move because:
    A) I didn't really need it
    B) One of the last things I did in London on this bike is fall on my face in front of my own flat and sliiiiightly tore the side wall of one of the tires. Enough to not seal but an inner tube would have worked.

I finally tackled this issue the other day and thought I'd try to fix it before buying another £60+ tire. I used oldskool tire patches from the inside and super glue from the outside. Somewhere on the internet, I read fabric tape might also work since it "bonds" well with the sealant.
So far it held up but I only rode it on the road. No rugged riding yet.
While at it I also found a massive 3cm thorn in the other tire but that was easily fixed with a dynaplug.
In the end, I spend about £5 to fix two tires. Not bad I guess.

  • Something very satisfying about fixing a tyre.

  • Something very satisfying about this inbred and makes me really regret selling mine to jump on the 26” retro mtb band wagon (attempt 2 now that it’s cool).

  • Haha I would love a retro 26” mtb but couldn’t justify it.
That’s why I build the GT Karakoram for my partner 🤫👀

  • I just went back through the thread and I realised I never introduced you to a bike that has become very dear to me recently.
I used to have a pretty cool ratty track bike that I build up shortly before lock down.
I tend to introduce bikes with the story of the bike they are replacing :D
It was just a proper beater. Looked a bit run down but with very decent components and it was just light and fast.
Very aggresive though. Really tight geo and honestly a good size to small for me. I was only able to ride it with quite abit of seatpost exposure, long stem and wide handlebars. I am lucky(?) to have resonably small feet so toe overlap didn't kill me.
After my accident I had to realize that this bike was just too aggresive to ride for me comfortably for the unforseeable future and I started looking for a replacement.
