Yes - that's completely true actually.
I guess trying to price producers according to their costs of production (rather than equally according to the utility of what they produce) doesn't make sense either - why would you pay a gas supplier less than a coal supplier just because they're higher up the order?

Almost as if the Tory mantra "the market will sort things out" is utter bollocks.

Does it present a case for nationalising the energy supply, remove the market & 'shareholder value' motive?

I end up doing this every single morning listening to Today

Certainly a case for changing the power pricing structure. Everyone wants more cheap renewables, but it makes no sense to then pay record pricing for it because there's a price surge in another market.

“the shelf-life of a lettuce”
The Economist puts it rather succinctly -

Her floundering on the Heathrow Q was quite telling I thought, amongst the general cluster fuck of decisive energy script.

devisive energy script
Surely?

This is why they're trying to get renewable suppliers onto a contract for difference instead. Instead of paying them the gas production price plus a margin, you just pay them their production price plus a margin
Edit: Actually this came out today https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-introduces-new-energy-prices-bill-to-ensure-vital-support-gets-to-british-consumers-this-winter

Sums it up nicely I think. Scathing

A lady expert being interviewed from New York on C4 news about the market turmoil issues just said that JRM was “talking bollocks” when asked about his utterances.

Is there no way the rest of the parties can start a vote of no confidence and call for a general election. Given how bad things are it surely can’t go on
-
• #169
Well, I’m calling it a day with some cans of strong lager
State of this shit
Honestly -

Tory MPs would have to vote for it and most of them would lose their jobs. It's also not something you can do every day, you need to pick the moment
-
• #171
It’ll need Conservative MPs to vote against their own leader to succeed. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility, but generally turkeys don’t vote for Christmas.

Saw that. She's not wrong.

I've given up on Today - all the bile and righteous anger sparked by the unchallenged lies, propaganda and, lately, endless fawning deference just sets you up really badly for the day. It's the aural equivalent of doomscrolling.
