If you can get your way to sportsbikeshop then try and order some bull-it to try on, cheapish for motorbike jeans and the fit my short stubby legs quite well. I have covec tactical slim and stealth 17. The covec are tougher and I wear them on the commute and most of the day at work unless I have meetings. The stealth are much lighter but probably closer to what your brief is. They come with a stealth armour which i find a bit flimsy out of he box so have stuck some stiffer material to the back of to make it less flexible.
Any recommendations for casual looking jeans with some sort of abrasive resistance / subtle armour?
For those "popping to the shops" rides.
(I know, nothing beats leathers, but if I am popping to town, I'm not doing more than 30 on the way there, which is not dissimilar to speeds on the road bike and I'll have shorts on then)
I wear an athletic cut (decades of cycling gave me thighs, middle age gave me a larger waist)
