• I went France - Germany - Austria - Germany - France - Belgium - France over the summer.

In Belgium and the UK you may as well have a 150bhp diesel. In France and Austria a 300bhp petrol would be good. In Germany you need 450bhp to keep up with traffic.

Earlier in the summer I did Ely>Switzerland on the Saturday and Switzerland>Ely on the Sunday. I can confirm that 570bhp meant keeping up with the traffic was not an issue, but did result in rather too many fuel stops than felt optimal. My usual principle on long journeys like that is that if the car needs to stop for fuel before I need to stop for a wee then it's too soon.

  • Crumbs. That’s some seat time. More or less CO2 than your average flight do you reckon?

Fitting mega powerful massive cars with ~70L tanks is daft. A big power diesel would probably still be a very good thing for that type of work.
