  • Both

Behind (a little to their right) initially to observe them, give them feedback and give them reassurance
In front to show them your position/communication/observations asking them to follow your line
Behind and to their left to observe them make independent decisions

    Mix it up.
Ask them if they're happy to do the communication stuff with drivers behind them

  • Thanks! Good to get the expert view.

  • Both. Usually behind though.

In front if you want to model behaviour as it's easy for them to see how you'd deal with a particular situation. Then swap and let them have a go, being behind and slightly further to the right allows them to feel comfortable to try things out.
