I have what was originally about a 15mm shard of glass that is has been stuck in my thumb for about 5 years! It broke at some point and is now 2 shards that are about 10 mm apart under my skin, they slowly move around. I am hoping one day they will poke through the skin and I can remove them, they bloody hurt every now and then.

Ha, sounds grim. A good few years ago I got a glass shard in my hand shortly before going on holiday with friends, one of whom was a student doctor. Kitchen table surgery was performed using a scalpel made from a disposable razor and vodka for sterilisation. He then superglued me up. One of the neatest scars on my hands tbf.
Plywood splinters are way worse in my opinion.
Glass rarely gets stuck and never really goes manky. It’s usually more like a really shallow paper cut.
My hands are trash obviously but glass isn’t as bad as you’d think.
