I'd always use my own bike. You'll know it, know how it handles, have it set up with the tyres you like, bars and tap you like, saddle you like, fit will be right. You'll know how to fix it if it goes wrong, have the bottles in the right locations and the Garmin mount and lights or whatever sorted out. It'll all be "familiar" and unfamiliar is not really what you want from your bike during an event.

If it was shorter or you were less serious about it or you could ride the hire bike for a long time beforehand I wouldn't bother with it.

Mind you, carting your own bike around does suck so make sure you have a good case in advance and have a lot of time (and beer) to pack it.

  • Cheers,

I think based on @stoo61 and your feedback I will bring my own.

I looked at bike hire out there, and while the day rate may be cheap, I would need to hire for 2-3 days in order to collect, setup and return the day following the event.

On this basis it’s way more expensive then hiring a box and paying BA.

I’ve packed my bike in a box to travel earlier this year so have a fair idea on how not to do it (chipped paint on top tube)…
