  • Where do folk on here get their 'vintage' Rolex serviced? my dad has given me his 1603 DJ and called yesterday to ask that I get Rolex to service it. The quotes I got pre pandemic were eye-watering but he is convinced that taking it direct to Rolex is the way to go... any advice greatly appreciated...

For some further info he bought the watch in 1973, he wore it daily for a few months a year (working off-shore) then got a swatch in the 80s and put it back in it's box. He has never had it serviced. I was given it to look after a few years ago and it wasn't running but I asked a local shop to take a look and they sent it to Rolex who provided a quote to service. The quote was more than I could afford so I asked for it back and it was returned in working order! result... however a few months later it stopped again... I had another watchmaker look at it who told me it needs a new crown tube and a new rotor (+bits I can't recall)... I would also like to get the bracelet serviced as it's a bit jangly... my dad is convinced that he should have got it on the Jubilee so I'm also keeping an eye out but these of the correct era seem to go for £850+ which I don't have... what to do, what to do?
