He still wins races. He might not be winning at the level he was in his prime, but he's still racking up enough wins (and points) to be attractive to a lot of teams (and rumoured to be heading to Astana rather than Movistar). He won't have negotiated a termination of his freshly signed three year contract unless he had something else lined up.

Tramadol is a mild painkiller, it's not exactly oxygen vector doping.

I still think it's ridiculous that something as mild as tramadol, which most people would happily take if they were prescribed it in everyday life, gets lumped in with recombinant EPO as 'doping' by the media and is then happily parroted by cycling fans.

He's been punished, and again, he's appealing that punishment which is his right, and that's the end of it.

Meanwhile, someone who did properly cheat for a large part of his career and is completely unrepentant about it, is feted as he comes up to retirement.
