BT sale on, 'fibre 500' & TV package coming in at about £36 which makes it not much more than we're currently paying for internet and a couple of TV services. Will be a slight ballache getting it hooked up no doubt as it'll be coming in at a different spot (unless I can convince the engineer to hook me up from the pole at the back of my house - unlikely.
I don't really have the need for faster internet right now, but 'future proofing' I guess.

Looking to sign up to community fibre if anyone has a referral code?

Don't suppose anyone has experience with a FTTP On demand provider?
Moving house soon and would like fibre but it looks like options are limited and expensive.
There's no Openreach fibre beyond our cabinet and only Amvia seem willing to connect, but they then charge £50/month which is a bit steep.
Virgin's coverage currently unknown but I'm waiting to hear back

How did you enquire with Virgin?
I work there and can look into it for you. I also can do LFGSS deals.

We've just upgraded to BT Halo 3 500 (just a £6 increase). So far so good with +400mbps over wifi and over 500mbps wired. I'm thinking of getting a pair of powerline adapters to hard wire in my Xbox. Any suggestions for a good quality set that will cope with 500mbps+?
-
• #958
Your mileage may vary but my experience with powerline was crap, I had a well reviewed Netgear set. Make sure your order from somewhere with a good return policy as from my reading around its luck of the draw (something to do with how your wiring was done) as to whether it works well or not.

Oh that's interesting! Just through a form on the site
The next street over (where my partner has lived in the past) has a virgin cable, but nothing on our street does, so it's a weird one.

It’s been great for me, coming up to a year of use now

community fibre
is that through vodafone?
I had 200mbps from virgin but it was shite and decided to leave, they then gave me a great deal on 100mbps and its even more shit ... so thinking of making the jump.
-
• #963
I don't think Community fibre is through Vodafone. I've had it for about a year now as well, 200mbps, and it's been great. A big difference from PlusNet DSL
-
• #964
ah i think vodafone is the "city fibre" option in cambs
-
• #965
Nah, they're their own company, just in London atm, you have to check their website for coverage. They run the fibre overground using BT poles so they've been able to roll out reasonably quickly. Been waiting for my BT contract to run out to make the jump.

Had it a few weeks, loving it. Had about 75Mbps tops before with Plusnet.
Had to buy an additional WiFi access point and do some twiddling to get decent WiFi speeds but getting up to 600Mbps now and up to about 800 on WiFi 6 devices.
They put a flyer through your door before they start installing in your area, so if you're interested but they've not arrived yet look out for that.

We've got the Deco M5 mesh discs which is fine atm as only the phones in the house are wifi 6, I am about to buy a new work machine though so we might get the linksys mesh then, my wife can claim it as an expense as her work are pretty on it with facilitating wfh.

Anyone else had their speed bumped-up by Virgin? Just got an email announcing I needed to reboot my router: gone from M200 to M250 free of charge.
Renewal in the summer was particularly generous (after an unprecedented amount of fuckery).
I suppose the competition is improving...
-
• #969
Yes, got one today.
-
• #970
I had the email - haven't seen any noticeable benefits (after restarting router) and still can't wait to go somewhere else. Price has risen from 45 when I moved in to 65 within 4 years. It's slower and more expensive with the same provider than my last house (350 speed for 35p/m).
However, I can't be bothered to wait on hold for 6 hours to tell them I'm leaving.

6 hours
I was on hold for something ridiculous like 3 hours every evening for nearly a week, this renewal.
I was adamant I'd switch, but when the inevitable offer came it was too good to refuse. It's only once every 18 months, so greed and lethargy trump principles.

The easiest way to do this is opt in to marketing communications and then just phone up and go straight through to the I want to leave part. In my experience you don't get to speak to anyone useful when you call them so there's no point in having a discussion with them.
Put that in motion and at some point a few days later someone will phone you to offer a deal.
My last renewal took about 20 minutes: 15 minutes on hold before I said I was leaving and then a brief call when someone called me and asked what I wanted to stay.

^ same
start the leaving process first, wait for them to call you back
Did that a few months ago. Ended up with £35 a month for their 500mb service and £16 on O2 for unlimited phone/texts/80GB data. then did the Virgin/O2 boost thing to bump to 900MB and 160GB data for same price.

Yes I was on hold on for all that time just to tell them I wasn't renewing, not to try and hammer out a deal or anything.
Once I actually got through it was a 2 minute job to say I was leaving.
I knew they'd call me back and originally I was looking just to keep things the same, ie no price hike.
But I was so pissed-off by now, that I wasn't going to accept whatever, but they straight-up offered to increase my speed and cut my bill.
If you haven't already signed up I can get you a better deal for Virgin.
I have a post in the member discount thread. Just DM me
