  • Ugh! Reminds me of the time I rode 15k with a 40kg planer/thicknesser balanced on a similar trailer setup.. Everything above 12-14 kph induced a very worrying speed wobble.

  • This bike is bonkers!

Fashion triple, mullet brakes, barnacle fork, Rohloff…

  • awaiting mudguards and a mini pannier rack :)

  • looks like an interesting build

  • Fitted guards to the all shitty after getting dogshit on me on way to work yesterday. Had been looking for some fancier guards but not much about in the right width apart from sim works which are outrageously expensive.

Goal was ultimate dad bike, nursery runs, mixed surface commuting, maybe occasional gravel rides with the racks and guards off.

Had the Carradice already but I’m used to the Super C (didn’t want to take the bagman off it as use it on 2 other bikes) but really don’t like the straps on the Nelson or whatever this is. So fiddly compared to the super C. I remember now why i stopped using this one.

  • That looks like a mighty fine dadbike - even if #26isdad.
I'd recommend a flap on the top of the front mudguard to avoid soaking the bottom of the bag. I still haven't fitted one to mine, and it's been soaked thrice in a week..

  • This is functional bike wisdom. Alternatively a sheet of plastic fitted to the underside of the rack achieves the same spray protection

  • Yeah that's a good idea too!
The extended guard would serve to protect my dynamo light from spray as well. As it is mounted below the rack.

The other option is getting some VO mudguards - appearantly they are 25 cm(!!) longer than the bluemels currently fitted! Or a set of GB Stainless

    -EDIT-
GB are cheaper than VO.. Will definitely go for GB

  • Why not go for these: https://www.sks-germany.com/en/products/bluemels-style-28-65-set-11838/
A lot cheaper and they are sturdier and better looking then the old style sks bluemels.

  • Not sure I agree that they are better looking - but of course that's entirely subjective.

  • GB are cheaper than VO.. Will definitely go for GB

Read on annoter thread (don't remember where, current projects I think) that you can't really fiddle with the radius of stainless steel mudguards (GB) like you can with aluminium ones (VO, Honjo, etc), which I didn't know and would make me think twice before buying GBs (although I had them before and they are great, sturdy, etc.)

  • Cheers. I had a bit of an old flap for that purpose zip tied to the pizza rack before but think i binned it, will probably do the same again at some point. Also need a flap for the back.

I’ve ridden the tank to work every day this week, lad I ride home with is on an ebike which is a bit painful but I’m trying to build some fitness back up so I think it’s actually helping that.

  • Of course it won't be an issue if they are properly radiused out of the boks..
Definitely something to be aware of though.

  • O rly? I thought it was the other way around, steel being more malleable than aluminum. I tweaked the GBs on my wife's bike from 26 to 27.5. Not much difference though.

  • Ha! Well I don't know... Only read this couple days ago. Will try to find thread. I've happily readjusted my aluminium VOs... Good stuff if all metal tweak-able!

[edit] found thread in question: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16699541/

  • Well, the above comments state that you can't do it without specialized tools, not that it isn't doable. I'd say aluminium is much more succeptible to failures due to work hardening than aluminium.

  • The Paul brakes are great, although no better than well set-up BB7s.

I just swapped out an old pair of the same Gravelkings that I had on various bikes across a 4 year period. I think I had maybe 1 puncture per year on them. I'm always surprised to hear that people have problems with flats.

  • The Paul brakes are great, although no better than well set-up BB7s.

    That doesn't make sense.

  • Paul brakes are great
Paul brakes are no better than well set-up BB7s
∴ BB7s are great by the transitive property. ∎

  • Yup. BB7s are great brakes.

If you're interested in stopping buy the Avids, if you're interested in stopping hipsters in the street, buy the Pauls

  • Looks great
