Thanks so much! Unfortunately, as you know, I have to paint it. I too love the way it looks now, but never really liked the clear-coated raw look. And it doesn't last. You are correct about the frames origin's. I purchased from a seller in Poland who had bought a large stock of inventory during the merger. Those bikes of yours that you describe sound very unique! Very nice gallery.

Thx! Unfortunately this build has been on the back burner. I did manage to put some new parts on it, but haven't gotten it painted yet. I polished some Campy levers and added some new parts.
It's got a full record 10 group on it, some vintage ventos and rene herse cranks. I have some more pics I'll upload later. I hope to get it painted this winter. -

Some updates: I had been trying to figure out what the hell to do with this bike when I got invited to showcase a build at a local build show. That put some things into motion. The idea with this frame was always to sort of repurpose it as a light-ish touring/bikepacking rig. How many Merckx you see doing that sort of thing? I finally fitted some decals, and decided against paint for now. The patina is one of a kind, from years of it hanging in the Merckx factory in Belgium. I managed to squeeze 700x48s and cleaned up the cables/housing a bit for the show. Last, but not least, I got some custom bags made/printed by Dyed in the Wool. I went with album art of a Brian Eno/Laraaji album called "Day of Radiance" It's an ambient album that fits the type of long distance riding I plan on doing with this bike. The art has a topographic nature to it. I am quite chuffed with how they came out.

I think these frames came out of the old Merckx when it shut down. Lots of really strange and cool frames came availabile at that time. I bought 2 from a bike shop in Belgium. One was a repaired Mxl frame and the other a Litespeed built ti with a very unusual geometry (super slack geo).
When I was still in then business of selling vintage bikes and parts I think I have had my hands on pretty much every color scheme.
