I don't think it'd be mad. If you're not planning on upgrading much I am sure they'll do fine for a lot of riding.
If you are looking for something that's a bit more future proof make sure to have boost spacing and thru axles on the frame. Bonus points for 12 speed drivetrain and microspline freehub body if Shimano. Deore 12 speed is greay value for money I think.

EUR or GBP? Each or both?
Canyon grand canyon comes to mind https://www.canyon.com/en-es/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-6/2615.html?dwvar_2615_pv_rahmenfarbe=BK%2FGY
Hello mountain bike people. Now I've moved to rural parts I want to get mountain bikes for my wife and I to enjoy some of the cross country trails. Nothing too fancy as we're unlikely to ever go all properly mountainbikey, and I don't want rear suspension. I have a budget of max 2k thanks to a refund I'm due.
Would it be mad to buy a couple of Specialized Rockhoppers?
The last mountain bike I had was a Saracen Traverse. I know nothing.
