Did the pipes have to sprawl across the whole wall? I know, I know, you can't constrain art - but I was hoping to stick a washing machine in there.

That's a certain kind of plumbers work. I'm sure any reproach will be met with a very sullen attitude. I normally fall out with them very fast, which saves a lot of time.
