the media response was controlled ... didn't expect this many israel bots
I just asked you to stop being antisemitic toward British Jews. Why are you bringing Israel into it?
-
• #3028
you getting stuck with these imaginary hurt british jews speaks volumes of your compass. are you also concerned how anti-white racism is harming british people?
-
• #3029
Why isn't this whataboutery?
Is it possible to be concerned about British Jews and also about non-white people? As you imply not.
-
• #3030
it's about the context, in this context it's not particularly progressive to be concerned about british jews as it's a way to obscure the 'worse bad'.
-
• #3031
I am not sure it is a way to obscure the ‘worse bad’ though. It’s a problem of its own right. The implication of your view is that I can’t be concerned about anti-semitism in the Labour Party because you think the issue has been used (weaponised, maybe?) for some other reasons.
But I don’t know what they are, whether that is true or why I should be required to look at the motives of people saying things rather than just whether the original complaints are true or not - which they seem to be.
Also you aren’t really helping much - you’re fully slagging off people who have legitimate concerns, alleging prejudice, lack of moral compass, calling people Israel bots, saying that people who suffered anti-semitism are “imaginary” - pretty offensive, to be honest

imaginary hurt british jews
Your friends in the Labour Party who leaked that report into antisemitism did so without bothering to redact the name, number, and contact information of several Jewish victims of antisemitism, including one child, who subsequently found himself on far right hit lists. Even if you don't believe that antisemitism was a problem in Labour - and christ alive man, have a word with yourself - then you must accept that that is serious, legitimate, and avoidable harm caused to our Jewish friends and allies.
There is nothing imaginary about it.

o lord, o man, someone's ended on a hit list. did you cover your eyes when the palestinian children were actually dying on camera? like mortar stuck in their heads, blood flowing, family screaming before them type of dead.
is this how you lead your life, without being sad for these dead children? double standards much?

Out of curiosity, where do you get your news from?
Really boring places mostly like the Guardian or Der Spiegel. I had another smaller German
website for more niche news but they have gone completely bonkers since the war in Ukraine.
The rest depends on the event, for Ukraine sometimes DW TV. If I want to shock myself
back to reality I read the comments at the Daily Mail.Aren't you worried about fallacy of origin?
I don't think there is a need for a news site that an oppressive regime wears as a mask.
-

To be clear - I was responding as to why you might view anything from Al Jazeera with a hint of circumspection, not why there might be a problem with this specific film.
As for the "material reality" of the piece. The factual credibility isn't easily verified - it does not, as far as I can make out, make its source material available for analysis. How are we to know what has been left out.
And the professional presentation is utterly irrelevant. Except, perhaps, as a salutary reminder that just because it looks pretty, that doesn't mean it can be taken at face value.
The producers, in their own words, do "not to report the news but [...] make the news.". That suggests to me that circumspection is in order.
Thank you for telling me that I am slave to my prejudice on this though. Perhaps you could take the time to show me what that prejudice is? So that I can improve myself.

because nitpicking about british jews in this context reveals your problematic ignorance considering the big picture. there's no jew talk without israeli apartheid talk etc.

Banned from this forum (Misc & Meaningless) as the prior comments were clearly trolling and a bit unhinged (also illogical, but hence the interpretation as trolling).

I read the digital print editions of the Guardian, Telegraph, NYT, and WaPo on the daily and Daily Mail and FT digital print editions once a week just for a skim.
In terms of online news sources, usually just Guardian. I don't watch TV news other than Al Jazeera English for major breaking events, where their coverage is usually fantastic.

Good speech

Thanks bossman. Saves me from having to use the ignore function.

Fucken love Angela Rayner. They should allow her to be the labour attack dog until election time.

Good speech
It really is. Feels like an important moment tbh.
"The party of centre ground" 👌
Although I'm sure this is going to infuriate our more left wing lfgssers who would rather seize the means of production in 2024.
-
• #3045
Although on the seizing means of production note...Great British Energy
Most of the conservative governments in Europe have made efforts to nationalise growth in renewables...always felt a bit mental that the UK conservatives weren't interested in it. It makes perfect sense in terms of long term energy security.

Yes thats a goodun
Also real clarity and vision at last after hedging their bets regarding actual policy.
Looking forward to the contrast with Truss speech next week. What on earth can she say?
-
• #3047
The centre ground is far more left of centre than most newspapers and news outlets would have you believe.
-
• #3048
You're probably right. Left of centre policies do tend to be popular. Even with Conservative voters to an extent. (If you hide which party came up with the idea).

It’ll be Keirs big tent and that’s okay if it keeps the tories out for the next few generations.

I didn't expect Starmer to set his stall out today...makes me wonder if he thinks there is a GE just around the corner. Either that or he really is planning on pushing hard on alternative policy for the thick end of two years...which seems unlikely to be wise.
can you pinpoint how do the illiberal theocratic views surface from this particular piece of quality investigative journalism?
should we just look at the material reality of the piece (factual credibility, professional presentation etc.) and not let our prejudice take control?
