  • I've got a standard Victorian terrace. I'd like to be able to use the side return in the winter for drying clothes, doing stuff on my bike, DIY, etc. without being rained on (and possibly shelter from the sun in the summer).

    I don't want anything permanent but was pondering getting a retractable awning to go out from the side wall to cover most of the side passage. Anyone any thoughts on whether this would look shit, is a great idea, there is a better idea I've missed, etc

    Prices for this kind of thing seem to vary wildly so would also be interested if anyone had any recommendations, cheers

  • Perhaps just some sun sail style awnings over the side return would be enough, and they look quite nice if done well, and mega cheap

  • They do look nice, but they can fill up with water - at least ours does. They're also a bit of a pain to put up and down - I'd go for the retractable awning in preference if you're looking for something lightweight
