How did you end up here?

So, after taking the latest iOS update, my phone decided to back to factory settings. I can't get everything back (apps, phonebook) because facial recognition has reset and I can't remember the password. They can send texts to my emergency number, which is a phone I haven't had for 5 years.
Now everything is lost in the cloud. The messages I'm getting from Apple are telling me that will allow me to reset my account in 14 days. This isn't really feasible. Do I have any other options other than going to an Apple store and getting them to help?

I had a similar prob. Apple sorted it but it took a while - a couple of weeks I think. You need to contact Apple directly. We didn’t visit their shop - just phoned. It is a nightmare.

There’s an emergency number? Where? How?

Hello, forgive me if this is a bit lazy but I thought I'd ask here as I'm going in circles.
I'm due a new phone and computer and wondering wether to go Apple or Android.
I've always had old Macs and am currently on Android phone.
I'll maybe have a grand to chuck at the pair. Maybe more. Maybe.
I've been put off by apparently apple changing their intel or whatever meaning everything will become immediately obsolete. Not sure if that's right tho, this kind of thing isn't my thing. If I'm going to drop a grand I'd rather it last at least a little while.
Should probably mention I'd like to use it for video editing and Photoshop/ design.
Am attracted to the Mac mini as I already have a screen and keyboard and hear good things, particularly on the latest one.
However it's tempting to get a pc laptop that I'd feel less precious about carrying around although this isn't that important.
Was originally thinking another iMac but are they on the way out?
Thanks in advance, advice greatly appreciated.

I'd say you need to figure out whether you do want / need a laptop or rather a stay-at-home computer.
These days, Windows or Mac both works equally well (unless you really need to do very niche things), so it's more about what your personal preference is, and whether you're already in the apple eco-system or not (read: if you want to get an iPhone it will be nice to also get a Mac).
You will be aware already that the apple stuff is usually more expensive - but also nicer 🙂 -

Correct, the old Intel machines are (more or less) obsolete now. The current machines have Apple’s own M1 and M2 processors (and their Pro and Max variants).

You’ll need 16 GB RAM for this. You won’t get anything new for £1000, so I’d look for a used Mac Mini M1 or 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 with that amount of RAM. If you can stretch to it a refurb Mac Studio (£1799) would be a great buy which will last you for years. You will need a decent 4K or 5K screen to plug it into.

Mac mini
I have one, they are great particularly with the new chips. You miss the portability vs a laptop it's true. An Air might be an option.

No they aren't.
People will happily use them for many many years to come. -

-
• #19640
It's not a slight exaggeration, it's bullshit (no offense).
And yes, if I was on a limited budget as OP stated abve (1000 or a bit more for phone and computer) then I'd go ahead and get a refurbished iPhone and a used (intel) Mac because everything else like shiny new iMac, Studio etc. would be out of the question.

• #19642
True but mine cost £2k after a SSD and RAM bump, though I'm sure the new Air would fly for most tasks anyway.
-
• #19643
Possibly. I’ve got a Samsung 840Evo 250GB but need to check if I need what’s on it and wipe it (a bit harder since I got rid of my Mac, but hey). It’s in a USB SS icy box enclosure. You still after one?

Any recommendations for a wireless keyboard? With arrow keys but no righthand number keys.
Is the go-to Keychron?
-
• #19645
I still really like my Keychron. Would recommend either buying one that comes with PBT keycaps or factoring some into the price. The ABS ones that most of them ship with are garbage.

• #19646
I bought a Keychron K8 last week. Not sure about it at the moment.

What's wrong with apples? I find them much better than anything PC I come across

Bit more than £1k!
I'd recommend a refurb Air with an M1 chip. Anything intel is a waste of money if you ask me. That + a 2nd hand iPhone. That way @Jameski gets something portable and can add a monitor later if needed. 2nd had decent iphone is what? £300? Bit over budget but money well spent

How does what chip they use in new machines have any bearing whatsoever on the Intel machines?
They're not going to all die overnight. They were considered good machines right up until the day before new chips were announced presumably. Now they're obsolete?
