3x7 to 1x7 conversion. On my MF Pathfinder I've got an SR chainset with rivetted small ring. Should I just get an old Deore something square taper replacement and fit an nr chainring or is there some decent modern replacement? Looking at a cheap conversion, hence sticking with 7 speed.

SunRace has an ok 1x specific square taper crankset, I think it's called FCM800. I've seen it on quite some builds and used it myself with a SunRace CRMS chainring. Tad ugly, tad heavy, but cheap.
Otherwise just buy any old 110 BCD LX/DX/XT/whatever you can find. After '93-94 they switched to 94 BCD, watch out as the chainring options are going to be extremely limited (mostly Stridsland only).

Not sure if it quite fits the retro criteria, but I have an old Yeti 575 for sale. Sadly the forks are not working, but might be fixable, or could be replaced.

I've been touring on nineties mountainbikes since the late nineties. Very comfy, very safe.

GT Xizang from the Juli Furtado era on EBay.
Never seen one for sale before.
$2000 US is too much for me though. -

You know recession hit in when things like this pop up. I see a lot of extremely rare things listed up lately...

Yes, someone probably had it on their wall for years. I can’t see it getting the asking price for it.
Sometimes kids inherit stuff like this and it has no value to them, so they are eager to cash it in. A lot of it is generational, today’s cyclists aren’t interested in Merckx the way my generation was. -

Anyone like this Bianchi mtb for £40? crank is worth that roughly so the frame is essentially free.
Needs bottom bracket but I have a similar one from an old Raliegh I can include which should fit if needed. Left crank is awol.
I shouldn’t have bought this really as recently had a baby so not likely to get round to it (actually I got shouted for bringing it home, so I need to move it on)
Collect only please, I’m in Brighton but can bring to the station if needed.
It will be awesome when built up

Building up a mtb at the moment and would prefer a tidier front cable set up than finding a drilled stem.. I've got this Salsa stem I'm thinking to have Winston braze some bits onto the underside but anyone done something similar or have any recs for what specifically ask for and do?
Nice! Yeah this one is an absolute unit, weighs a ton- I’m always in the little chain ring to go up hills (well, that’s my excuse anyway). The Quad Giveth and The Quad Taketh Away.
