  • Hi all,

Reluctantly, I'm offering for sale my MASH SF Steel-framed "tracklocross" build bike, which was assembled in October 2021 on a no-expense-spared basis. Things got out of hand... It was only ridden on a couple of short journeys along a dry path between my home and office (basically to take the photos below) and I'm only selling because, following an office move, I just dont use it now and it's too radical to be an ornament. Full part list below, which came in at £3k. All parts were brand new in October 2021 and receipts supplied with sale. Build labour for bike and wheel by professional bike mechanic was a couple of hundred more on top of that. Selling for cost of the parts and the whole build is in virtually "as new" condition. It's done about 20km total lifetime mileage. £2900 ONO

It's got brakes (I tried to keep a retro MTB vibe to it with the NOS Shimano XTs) and a flip-flop hub so it's very rideable in all conditions (I'm too old for brakeless) but you could obviously take these off.

The colour of this frame has to be seen to be believed - it really pops and genuinely looks like neon lighting. The few people that have seen this bike have (not literally) drooled over it. They're also like hen's teeth in terms of rarity - particularly in the UK. But I know people know about MASH on this forum so won't go on........and yes....this bike has all the fixie point boxes ticked.

  • Cool bike! I would say it's overpriced by about £2000. You might get your total amount if you split though, as it has nice cranks and a hard to find frame etc. GLWS

  • Thanks for the comment.

The asking price reflects the actual prices paid for components and frame (+import costs) which are all documented in receipts with sale. Every bit of the bike is less than 12 months old and in virtually unused condition, other than having been installed obviously, so I think your assessment that it's 2k over-valued is a bit "off". What you probably mean is that YOU wouldn't pay what I'm asking....which isn't the same thing.

Appreciate though that this is a "niche" build and it's only going to be "worth" the asking price for the right person - someone who's looking for something quite unique and hard to get. It was worth it to me when I built it, but circumstances change and I can't justify keeping it on the wall as an ornament. Thought I'd try and sell as a complete before splitting - given the time, effort and labour that went into the build, but suspect this may be inevitable.

  • £2900 ONO

    Oh shit lol good luck.

  • Hey, looks lovely. I'm struggling to find an rrp of these frames, and on this basis, I too am finding the asking price quite steep.

  • Needs parting out to achieve anywhere near that figure.

  • The frame/fork was £950 total cost imported to the UK (paying VAT, shipping and import duty)

The list price buying from MASH (which I believe is the only place you can buy them other than a few shops in the Far East) is $900.

Am I right in thinking that you're looking for a buyer who specifically wants to spend this amount? It's a bold move, one that - obviously - will pay off if it happens

  • A friendly word of warning at your current pricing you can expect two things to happen. Firstly they’ll be a lot of comments taking the piss and secondly you probably won’t sell your bike. Even though prices in the 2nd hand market have risen quite a bit in recent years typically you can expect a depreciation of about 30% on parts even if they’re basically brand new. Perhaps less if what you’re selling is interesting/rare and granted the Mash frame is kind of in this category but most of the parts are fairly bland stuff. The best way by far to re-coup some of your costs is to split the bike into parts and sell separately. I’m saying this as someone who has sold/bought here a lot.

  • It's all used so IMO the RRP of the parts is kinda out of the window. Anyway I meant actual value but happy to agree to disagree. Of course we will Let the Market Decide. GLWS

  • Frame aside, I'm struggling to see where £2k in parts is coming from, given that it has V-brakes

  • I'm looking for a buyer who specifically wants THIS bike and has the money to buy it based on the value/condition of its components.

Listed in full expectation that I'd get the above comments. It's a niche build and will only appeal to a certain person. I just think it'd be a shame to break it and lose the embedded care, attention and labour in the build, given it was done so recently - which is why I'm keen to try and sell complete first.

Not in a rush to sell it and happy to consider sensible offers (vs value to me splitting it in future). If it doesn't go, it doesn't go.

  • Well in that case, I'll buy i-

Oh, it's got black dust caps, I'd like them to be red. Never mind, undibs and GLWS

  • I've got some purple caps too if that helps?

  • did you really spend £3k on it and then use that lock?

  • I just think it'd be a shame to break it and lose the embedded care, attention and labour in the build

    WTB embedded care

  • No, they won't be the original ones that had so much embedded care and attention put into them for THIS build specifically

  • This ad fits the flowery paragraphs of guff to overpriced ratio perfectly! Excellent job

  • Sigh. Honestly guys - this is a classified ad in the classified section of a forum about fixed gear bikes. I dont know why you're wasting your time and mine.

I honestly didn't really expect to make a sale here, but had hoped some might find it cool and that it might prompt a bit of genuine discussion about the bike.

I get it - it was an expensive build and my starting point for offers is high as a result - and the likely pool of potential buyers is small. I'm also not that desperate to sell it, but would for the right price. Thought a fixed gear forum might be a good place to start pool-wise but...having not used a forum in about 15 years.....now remember what they're entirely about. My mistake.

The starting point (assuming I'd get low-ball offers) was less than the recent build cost, but it's irrelevant because I suspect if I'd listed it at £2k (ie the 30% reduction on new suggested above) I'd have still received the same piss-taking comments.

Since I dont want to wind anyone up more, and frankly dont want to continue to receive notifications about this thread, I suspect it might be better if it was just removed. All the best!

  • all the best for the sale, but in terms of pricing, 50% on rrp would be a good start.
The frame commands more, but the components would probably go for less, sugino aside.

  • Please break it down more for us (joined sept 22 to post this ad)

  • building a 3k gaspipe single speed and then not riding it more than 20k is a cry for help, hope all is ok x

  • eBay item number:304639994510

  • That's where I should have posted it to begin with. Thanks all for the useful feedback though. Toxic bunch of cunts.

  • As others have alluded to - take it all apart, take some nice photos, maybe take advantage of the ebay fees offer atm, and there's no reason why you shouldn't get a decent chunk of your outlay back.

But £2.9k gets you a lot of bike elsewhere.
