Westend DJ just off Tottenham Court Road or DV247 in Romford might. DV247 have a big place but I know they send a lot of stuff from their parent company in Germany when you order online.

I've still got one of the OG Electribe ESX1's, haven't used it in forever but somehow can't bring myself to sell it

Hello,
I just stumbled across this thread while looking at bikes...
there's also Juno in Camden. I've got stuff from them in the past.

went to pmt, 2 doors down from look mum no hands, this morning, was shown around the roland mc-101 as an alternative to the electribe, bit smaller less buttons ( and we all know the more buttons the better right ? ) sounded pretty good with a couple of yamaha studio monitors
would like to listen to the electribe and have a feel of the knobs before making a decision. the roland seemed solid, buttons and knobs felt good quality, nice all round bit of kit
westend dj was closed today, will try them and juno during the week

MC-101 is a slightly more modern take on the groovebox vibe with more options but I suspect more fiddly than the Electribe. I had an E2S (the sampler one, though the only difference is the firmware). Quite liked it, nice format and I thought it sounded good but you couldn’t change the default midi channel mapping and that was a deal breaker for me.

I wasn't sure where to put this (I Hate? Drug of the Nation?) but man, I hate the soundtracks of Attenborough BBC nature docs. The TV itself is mind-blowing. but the music is so obviously the product of the same cabal of smug shirt-under-a-jumper wearing un-hipsters who have put their bloated epic choral sample wares over every series for the last twenty years. It's even worse they try to do something ethnic or funny (NB often the same in the minds of the producers I note). Cunts.

There's been some pretty incredible composers working on those docs but like with most genres they get stuck in a formula that's very hard to break free from and 99% of the time it's the fault of holding music. That's why nearly every action film for the last 20 years has Han Zimmer soundalike soundtrack.
For pretty much anything the director will have a load of tracks from something in the same genre for the editor to throw on to get the 'feel', then a composer gets very little wiggle room when recreating. If a composer gets some real freedom and you do get a groundbreaking score, you'll just get the same style rinsed for the next decade. I reckon for most of the Attenborough stuff they'll just be using tracks from his previous docs for the guide tracks.
(Source for above, I am an editor, this is my life 😂)

Heh, yeah I figured as much. I don't hate it really... I just always thought it was such a missed opportunity. Given how ground-breaking the cinematography is, how rote and generic the soundtracks are. I'm sure they're done by very clever people, but they're just so unhip. Such sampled strings. Very choral vocals. Many gong swoosh.

I watched one the other day about a stand off between two rival giraffes which had a spaghetti western theme to it. Nice idea Ibut the execution was kinda pastiche and felt like it was done with whatever sounds they had to hand.. I found it really cringey. I get that I'm probably in very tiny minority here but it bugged the shit out of me.

can i connect up something like the electribe to my hifi amp and speakers ? or will some wierd sound wave shape destroy my nice speakers ?
i think there are 1/4 inch jack connectors for sound out l&r, if i've got rcas at the other end l&r they should just plug into my amp .... right ?
-
• #3312
yep, it will have a line level output (same as the CD/tape/aux inputs on your hifi amp) so should all work fine

…I had the Korg ER-1 in 1999 what a great drum machine Rhythm Synth that is. It was a lot easier to use than the later incarnations, the Volca range are great at the moment for easy to use and results. I tried a T-8 Roland a while ago which was a lot of fun to have a go with.
Any one else use Volca’s on LFGSS?

I have an FM. Fun little box. I give it to my son, he twiddles random knobs and comes up with some great patches…

I started out my hardware journey with a Beats, Bass, and Keys - fantastic little boxes, especially for people starting out. I recently borrowed a Volca Drum and that thing blew my mind - it's basically a spiritual successor to the ER1 - just wish it came in a sturdier build.

I've got the Sample 2, basically just use it to play drum machine samples. Handy little thing though

Anyone have experience with Jomox Mbase 11 or Vermona Kick Lancet? We're using the 1010 Music Blackbox live but the biggest problem is there's a moments gap when switching between presets (tracks essentially).
We've kind of worked around it by having the same kick sample on the Digitakt which we load to cover that gap in playback on the Blackbox, but I'm looking at using a dedicated box just for kicks, then it can go on its own channel on the Bluebox

Wasn't sure if this belonged here or in Techno. It's tongue in cheek but still pretty accurate.

Any interest in a Reface CS (plus decksaver) and Korg SQ-1? Half-heartedly popped an ad up for them about a year ago, but since getting the JX-08 they've literally not been touched.
Currently eyeing up an MC-101 which would make my Volca Sample 2 redundant so if anyone's interested in that give me a shout.
Will update this post with some pics in the morning. All in very nice condition and in original boxes.
Would be after something like £250 for the Reface, £60 for the SQ-1 & £80 for the Volca.

Just got an electron syntakt. Really good sounds and clever filters and nice sounding delay and reverb means the Roland groove boxes are being sidelined…. It’s great fun
reccomendations for a high street shop in london to buy something like that electribe ?
