Thinking more on a realistic modeling Rompler for my setup; all the wind's been sucked out of those sales after learning there is a mountain of VSTs for stuff like grand pianos and orchestral strings that are free and probably sound better.

Finally fixed my rack-mount tape deck and hooked it up to my setup. Played around a bit with recording chord stabs with reverb hot and resampling them back into the MPC. The idea is to expand the textural variety as well the timbre of the samples I'm using. Hopefully it goes somewhere.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something or not, but is there a valid reason there's not much of a fuss made about ASM Hydrasynths?

They seem like insane value for money. Their 37-key Explorer is at a similar price point to a Boutique/Reface but with a pretty fully featured synth engine and poly-aftertouch. Is it just because it's Chinese and/or not a 'heritage' brand?

I think there was when they first came out. I remember seeing some great reviews.

Yeah as BRP said the original made quite a splash. The Explorer is a cool cut price option.

It seems quite thin / digital sounding in lots of ways, but also quite raucous and fat in others. It's the interface that appeals to me, though I've never bit the bullet and bought one as I'm happy with my Monomachine and Peak.

Did seem like quite a bit of cash (though not far off their Minilogue XD, though that looks to have dropped in price too). When it came out I had a bit of envy but in retrospect I think if I had to chose today I'd still choose the Reface DX that I have over the OPSIX. Though the DX7 patch support on the OPSIX is a big plus over the Reface.

If they added the ability to add custom waveforms and/or wavetables, I'd buy it this instant. I guess one downside is there's probably little in the way of physical retailers so having a good grasp on the difference in keys between the full size and Explorer is a bit tricky.

Thing is, the Minilogue XD is a four-voice analogue polysynth. The OPSIX is a Raspberry Pi with a keyboard. I know, product development costs etc, but they probably shouldn't really be as similar as they are in price.

Fantastic groovebox, especially for people starting out. There's a really well-known Techno artist in my area who still uses the original EMX-1 as the brain of her setup.

After over a year of waffling I finally pulled the trigger on a cheap Access Virus Ti desktop. It may be time to finally start the 00s Futurepop project I dreamed of starting when I was teen.

They are great. I sold mine because the integration side of it was a train wreck when it first came out. As a standalone synth I don't think I've ever had a better one. That integration would keep sucking me in though. Ruined so many projects.

I'd read similar in a few places - The Control software less interesting to me at this time, but I'm very excited for the rest of it.

It's a brilliant package. The fact that it's still going and they hold their value is testament to the greatness. Especially in this era of so much synth choice.
