  • V65tt?

Had to look that up, the article I read did not give it a glowing recommendation !!!!

“The TT performed reasonably well, save for a few fatal flaws. The first was the worthless range offered by the weeny fuel tank, which limited the TT's appeal to globe-trotters or people who liked to ride further than the corner store. The second was the limited rear suspension travel which was hampered by the old-school dual shock setup and short swingarm from the V65. The third was a fragile final drive that wasn't suited to being pushed hard off the beaten track. The fourth was the utterly useless front brake, which might have been suitable for a featherweight off roader but not for a 400lb road bike masquerading as such. The fifth was the lack of support for the swingarm pivot, which led to a few instances of cracked transmission cases in hard use. The final nail in the coffin was the typical bugbears of anything slapped together by Italians: iffy quality control, substandard wiring, and crap electrics….”

  • This is a bicycle forum still, right?

  • That’s what the V5 says

  • Are there any Husaberg fanpeople on here?

I have acquired on of the yellow bags like on these links:

I haven't ventured out of miscellaneous and meaningless in years.

  • Derbi Terra Adventure 125cc is versatile, fairly quick and decent speck. There used to be a very strong FB community but idk if it's still active.

  • Made of cheese.

  • Really? My Mulhacen (same bike with different bodykit and gearing) was decent.

Had to clean the carbs twice (once a full strip and rebuild), change the battery a few times but otherwise the only real issue was the fuel warning light (apparently a common piaggio fault).

  • I’m quite sure the local mechanics have seen some issues that are typical of budget bikes. Or maybe you just need to baby them more than a Jap offering. I could be wrong, maybe they aren’t as bad as I say.

  • In case anyone is out-out.

  • Do these people just wait at the side of the road and take photos of riders, like at a track day?

  • Yes. And often the pictures are really… not great. And expensive.

  • I'm riding a Honda Monkey, which cracks me up every time I get on it, although I don't take myself too seriously.

  • What a world we live in.

  • Monkeys and Groms occupy a different part of the universe, like Cubs. You can’t knock them in any capacity.

  • Idk. I'm gonna stand firm on this one. Mine got knocked over parked and it took me a year to get round to working out how to fix the bars and throttle, so was left unused. Carb clean and it was aok.

Generally people like them. Plus they're quick, and have a good top speed. Personally, if I was going to potentially keep a 125cc for a while I'd want discs and a good top speed. CBR125 would also be up there along with whatever that little suzuki dirt bike style one which is really fast is.

Ultimately you need to do maintenance on any bike you ride.

  • Maybe I’m wrong on the Derbi, then. I was sure that someone had theirs shit out the clutch, and another kept coming back because of junk parts. But there are so few of them around Swindon tha maybe these were the only two Friday bikes out the factory, or poorly maintained.

  • Could also be one of the cheaper models. Senda maybe. They come in 50cc and 125cc I think.

Ultimately they're owned by Piaggio, so a not Chinese junk bike, but possibly not as reliable as a Honda.

The one thing I would say is that UK guides and parts are harder to obtain, so for that reason a common Japanese bike is always going to be the practical choice. But I think a similar thing would apply to that little Duke hooligan bike.

  • Sure. You’re probably right there.

  • Acquired this incredibly useful little multi-spanner in some bits.

    HM is Honda Motors?

Can’t seem to find one anywhere online with a variety of keywords.

Reusable-cable-tie’d it to the underside of the crash pad for now.

  • It doesn't have a 13 which used to be such a popular size in my wrenching days.

  • Yes exactly. Came with an incredibly deep spark plug socket with a 10 or 12mm end. No idea what bike it was for.

  • Apparently it's superstition. Nissans don't have any 13mm bolts (might be urban myth!). It's 1/2 inch of course, well close anyway, 12.8mm.

  • So that’s why my grandfather’s old imperial spanners and sockets fit those heads better than my 13mm does!
